The Mayor Samuel & Esther H. Hendricks Farmstead is a historic farm located in Richmond with a home, barn, and granery. The home was constructed between 1912-1919. In 2004, the Mayor Samuel & Esther H. Hendricks home was nominated to be added to the National Register of Historic Places. However, the Thompson family decided to back out at the last moment, respectfully.
Samuel Walstein Hendricks was born Aug 7, 1940 in Richmond to Samuel Allen Hendricks and Eliza Abigail Hendricks. Samuel married Esther Jane Hyer on Dec 28, 1892, in Logan, Utah, and together they had six children. Samuel served as the 12th Mayor of Richmond for a single term from 1912-1914.
Samuel purchased the property where he would build his home from his aunt, Rebecca Eliza Hendricks, and his uncle, John Austin Tippets, in 1909. Samuel built a large house from 1912 to 1919. His main source of income was farming, which he did on this property.
In 1940, they sold the farmstead to Parkin Kennan Hayes, a World War I veteran. He and his wife, Nettie Van Noy, lived in the home until 1945 when they sold it to Walter Iver Thompson and Mary Minta Goodman. The Thompson family added the grain bins to the property. Walter used the farmstead for its intended purpose until he died in 1995. Mary continued to live in the home just before she turned 100 years old. In 2012, the Thompson family sold the farmstead to the current owners. In 2024, the original garage was torn down and replaced with a larger one.
In 2004, the Mayor Samuel & Esther H. Hendricks home was nominated to be added to the National Register of Historic Places. However, the Thompson family decided to back out at the last moment, respectfully.
