George & Elizabeth M. Doty Home
History
Benjamin Landon Doty married Mary Jane Butterfield on May 12, 1874 in Cache County, Utah as his second wife, entering the practice of polygamy. The Doty family had moved to Richmond at this time, and Geroge Ellis Doty was born in Richmond on Sep 20, 1875.
George married Hannah Elizabeth Adelaide McCarrey on June 26, 1901 in Logan, Utah. Soon after, George was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hannah purchased this plot of land from James Horton and Martha Eve Lowe Gridley with an existing four-room log home already existing on the property in 1903 before they moved to Washinton State. The date of when the log home was constructed is unknown, but soon after Benjamin returned from his mission in 1904, he began working on the home. He laid a foundation, raised the ceiling, enlarged some windows, and updated the home for a large family.
George was known for his expertise in building and helped build the Old Main Drugstore. Geroge built his last home in 1940 and died in 1945. Elizabeth remained in the home until 1956 at her death when the home was passed to their children.
The home went through many different owners before landing in the hands of Robert Bradley and Wendy Davies Noel in 1996. In 2002, they added a garage to the west side of the home with some home expansions in the back. The current homeowners purchased the home in 2003.
