The Georeg & Elizabeth M. Doty Home is a historic home located in Richmond. The house was constructed sometime around 1903. In 2002, the George & Elizabeth M. Doty home was nominated to be added to the National Register of Historic Places, however, the nomination never went through.
Benjamin Landon Doty married Mary Jane Butterfield on May 12, 1874 in Cache County, Utah, as his second wife, entering the practice of polygamy. The Doty family had moved to Richmond at this time, and George Ellis Doty was born in Richmond on Sep 20, 1875.
George married Hannah Elizabeth Adelaide McCarrey on June 26, 1901 in Logan, Utah. Soon after, George was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hannah purchased this plot of land from James Horton and Martha Eve Lowe Gridley, which already had an existing four-room log home on the property, in 1903. It is possible that the log home was constructed by Justin Shepard.1 The date of when the log home was constructed is unknown, but soon after George returned from his mission in 1904, he began working on the home. He laid a foundation, raised the ceiling, enlarged some windows, and updated the home for a large family.
George was known for his expertise in building and helped build the Old Main Drugstore. George built his last home in 1940 and died in 1945. Elizabeth remained in the house until 1956. At her death, the home was passed to their children.
The home had changed hands several times before being acquired by Robert Bradley and Wendy Davies Noel in 1996. In 2002, they added a garage to the west side of the home with some home expansions in the back. The current homeowners purchased it in 2003.
In 2002, the George & Elizabeth M. Doty home was nominated to be added to the National Register of Historic Places; however, the nomination never went through.
