Lucy Ann Marie Cole

Lucy Ann Marie Cole was born Sep 15, 1830, in Kirtland, Ohio to Barnett and Phebe Van Alstyne Cole. She was one of the first Settlers of Richmond in 1859.

History

Lucy's father was one of Joseph Smith's bodyguards, and while growing up, Lucy would sit on Smith's lap while he would visit the Cole home. 

With her sistereither Lucinda or Phebe, it is not clear—Lucy experienced the Haun's Mill massacre and tended to the wounded after the fighting was over.

It's not clear as to what pioneer company the Cole family joined, but family histories state in September of 1850, the Cole family joined the Captain Lake company. She nearly walked the entire distance of the travel. After their arrival, they settled in Ogden, Utah.

Lucy married John Bair on July 1, 1852 in Salt Lake City, Utah. After some time in the Salt Lake Valley, they moved up to Richmond for settlement. Their first home was made of Cottonwood logs with a dirt roof and no floor. She, along wither her younger brother Moroni Cole settled Richmond.

Lucy was known for her fantastic ability to make clothing for burials and preparing the bodies for burial.

Epilogue

Lucy Ann Marie Cole died March 3, 1924 in Ogden, Utah. She was buried in the Richmond Cemetery.
