About

The Park Bench is a community center for individuals 55 years or older. The center is located on the north wing of the Park Community Center that includes two rooms. Each room is decorated with beautiful paintings and furniture, and games that challenge the mind and the body. The center is available 7 days a week.

The Beginning

The beginning of the Park Bench was in the City Council Meeting of July, 2022 when City Council woman Amber Ervin was tasked to organize a senior center for the city. After finding some volunteers, she reached out to a very select group of five individuals to help choose a name for the center. After the name was selected, painting to two rooms on the north wing of the Park Community Center was made.

Daily and other Activates

Tuesday: The Richmond Library will bring books for individuals to check out and read.

Wednesday: Healthy Hour is a day for individuals to have blood pressure checked with Jared Webb, and physical therapy classes.

Thursday: Free lunch from restaurants in the city or surrounding cities. This will change once the Bench finds a volunteer who has a food handlers permit that can make the food fresh from the Park Community Centers cafeteria. Individuals will need to schedule lunches the week before so to order the exact amount of food needed.

Foosball, a pool table, chess and other bored games are available. Quilt tying and other crafts are also available. A computer with a printer is also available for use. An Amazon Echo, aka "Alexa," is available to be used for quick internet questions and music. Other things availed to the Bench are a piano, book shelf, a food swapping station, activities that will be held in the gymnasium, and a smart screen that will be connected in the future.
