Project Description
In this project, Tara (my partner) and I researched two distinct locations to compare and contrast their demographics, technology usage, and digital culture. I focused on the Netherlands, while my partner chose Aruba. Our objective was to explore various aspects of these locations, such as population size, technology adoption, and how digital infrastructure shapes daily life in each region.
Fact
One interesting fact I learned about the Netherlands is that the country has one of the highest internet penetration rates in the world, with 99% of the population having access to the internet. This extensive digital infrastructure supports a digital economy where e-commerce and digital banking, such as the widely used iDEAL system, are seamlessly integrated into everyday life.
Artifact
Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night is one of the most iconic and celebrated paintings in art history. Created in 1889 while Van Gogh was in a mental asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France, the painting captures a dreamy night sky filled with swirling stars and a glowing moon over a quiet village. Its emotional intensity, bold brushstrokes, and vivid colors reflect Van Gogh’s inner turmoil and unique vision of the world. The Starry Night is often seen as a powerful expression of Van Gogh’s mental state and his deep connection to nature and the cosmos. Vincent van Gogh is Dutch, by the way.
Lesson Learned & teamwork
Throughout this project, I learned a lot about the Netherlands' technological landscape as well as its cultural nuances. The most important lesson was to recognize how deeply digital technology has integrated into daily life and how critical it is for economic and social interactions. Through completing this project, I learned the importance of thorough research and effective collaboration. Working with Tara, my partner, we divided the tasks based on our strengths. I focused on gathering demographics, while my partner researched climate and historical aspects for her country of research, which is Aruba. Since we have known each other for a while now , we have regularly communicated to ensure our findings were aligned and to avoid overlap. This collaboration taught me how essential clear communication and proper time management are in delivering a cohesive and well-rounded project.
This includes my group project insight; thank you for viewing; see you on the next page.
