Percussion is the family of striking instruments. Often called the "heart" of the orchestra, percussion instruments typically act as a beat that other sections can use to keep their time.
From Chinese to Western instruments, the percussion section is by far one of the most diverse sections in RICO. In a way, we represent the concept of a modern Chinese Orchestra, symbolizing the use of both Western and Chinese instruments to make beautiful music. Here are just a few of the many instruments we have.
The Da Gu is one of the most iconic instruments in Percussion. It is usually played to provide the beat of the song, though occasionally it can also be used for melody.
The western equivalent being the bass drum or Gran Cassa, this instrument and its equivalents have been used around the world for millenia, originating as far back as ancient turkey.
One song which heavily utilizes this instrument is called 金龙舞 (Dance of the Golden Dragon). Click on the name to check it out!
Of course, we also have an array of instruments of western origin. One of the more notable ones is the Vibraphone, along with its cousins the Xylophone and Marimba.
The Vibraphone is a keyboard instrument, similar to a piano. Unlike most percussion instruments, it can play notes and thus is sometimes used as a melody, rather than beat.
