Further detail:

• IF, You are considering streaming/recording on the Nintendo Switch or any other console for that matter. The Elgato HD60s works great! Now theres a lot of things to keep in mind... For example in order to stream the switch you are probably going to need a power strip to start with, Example. 

• UPDATE, IF, You are considering buying an ElgatoHD60s. You can get a better deal and buy a ElgatoHD60s+ when there is a holiday sale going on! Make sure your laptop/pc meets the requirements before purchasing!

• Anyway you will also need a HDMI supported monitor and a laptop/PC that has the Elgato's hardware requirements. You can find those requirements here: ElgatoHD60s Requirements Software Requirements. 

• A monitor is required to stream. At least one good quality monitor with a HDMI plug in and a headphone jack plug in.

• Now after you have checked those requirements on your laptop or pc and you successfully pass them by a bunch your good. But, IF, You are like me and you just fit the requirements or a bit over them than you are good... But, in your streaming software you might wanna keep the settings a bit lower. 

• When it comes to streaming software I use the Elgato Capture software. I recommend that or OBS, i've used OBS it is pretty good but a bit harder for me to work things out. I don't know much about OBS so I cannot really help you there but you can learn more at their website: OBS. UPDATE: I now use OBS but I only know the basics of it. Obs is good for good PC's! 

• UPDATE as of summer 2023 I now have & use a pc! I do not use Elgato anymore I use OBS. It gets easier to use overtime. For streaming on Twitch your bitrate will always max out at 6000mbps unless you are a Twitch partner. This means playing games that have a lot of movement your stream will look a bit blocky no matter your max bitrate output on OBS/Elgato settings. YouTube has a much hire bitrate max for people who aren't partnered. So if you are looking for crazy quality streams, you may find it challenging/limited. For recording I have my bitrate at 60,000mbps for 4k quality videos. Research what bitrate may be best for you and your systems!

• As for the streaming settings on the Elgato Software I suggest you keep the bitrate a bit lower depending on your wifi Upload Speed: Check your wifi Speeds. Since you cannot really stream super duper quality on twitch anyway (many reasons why you shouldn't Ex. viewers may not be able to load your stream) I suggest keeping your stream settings on the lower side. By the way... Streaming on youtube is a different side that I don't know too much of. I am not going to cover every single setting because that would take a long time and a lot of typing but If, you have any specific questions contact me from the media page or contact and community!

• Keep in mind your laptop/pc doesn't need a HDMI Cable for the ElgatoHD60s instead it uses the USB 3.0 port. So make sure you have enough Usb ports available to plug in any mic's or whatever you need. 

Mic Issues? 

Audio is a big thing to maintain and setup when it comes to streaming. One problem that I faced during the first couple of days when it came to video recording with the Elgato was that I couldn't talk to voice chat and record game sound at the same time. The easiest work around I have figured out was just to have two mic's. Plug your headphones into the monitor (if it doesn't reach you need a audio jack extension cord.) in order to hear the game. Then I plug in my secondary USB mic into my switch in order to talk to game chat. Your primary USB Mic should be connected to your laptop/pc to record your voice. Obviously these audio settings are optional depending on what you wanna record, so you don't have to buy all of those items.

One very important thing when it comes to streaming/recording is that you shouldn't plug your headphones into the switch audio jack to listen to the game. Only to the monitors headphone jack. IF, you plug it into the switch it will NOT record the game sounds due to the way the switch's audio is built.
