Welcome to the RGV Activism Fair! Before we get into anything, we will take the first 30 minutes to give attendees a brief overview on who we are, go over the schedule, and announce the rules set in place just so everything goes smoothly!

Aside from advocating for the causes you believe in, it is important that you listen to all perspectives of a certain topic. You can learn something new, either changing your stance, or solidifying it! In this session, participate in a moderated discussion on the 2020 Presidential Elections. Because we are all learning, we ask that you stay respectful (no name-calling, hate speech, etc). This is a judgement-free zone! :)

Too often, we are ashamed of who we are and where we come from, so we limit ourselves from reaching our fullest potential. That’s why we invited South Texas Ideas and the International Cultural Society to talk about the importance of empowering each other’s culture, community, and identity.

There’s more to learning than what is offered in the traditional classroom setting, from finding your passions to entertaining your own curiosities. Join Jopi Learning Community and Inspiration Fine Arts as they talk about the importance of taking initiative to pursue your own interests.

How to Lend a Helping Hand

Nothing beats directly helping out your community. In this session, RGV Bake4Sake and Friendship of Women, our mutual aid organizations, will give tips on how to lend a helping hand to others.

Self-care for Activists

To be frank, activism, while very rewarding, is a heavy load; from dismantling systems that have not worked for us in the past, to organizing events, on top of the COVID-19 anomaly, it is a lot to handle. But don’t let this scare you! To end the day, learn how to equally balance serving yourself and others, from tips on how to prevent burnout, to making sure you stay involved even during the current pandemic!
