M.Tech Dissertation

Analysis to Enhance Process Capability of Discharge Tube Coating Process in CFL Manufacturing - A Case Study at Orient Electric (Lighting Division), Faridabad (Haryana)

The coating process is the process of filling the triband phosphor powder in the bend tubes of CFL. It is an important process since it affects the lumens in the CFL. The amount of triband phosphor powder suspension in the bend tubes of CFL is specified for each wattage of lamps.

In this project the out of specification data for the coating process was reduced from the 29.76% to 6.77% which causes a substantial improvement in the overall process capability from 0.33 to 0.54. The wastage due to bad coating and the breakage of glass has also been reduced substantially from 1.5% to 0.9% and 1.6% to 0.5% respectively.

Also delivered an awareness session on Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma – Overview for the employees of lighting division dated 5th February 2016.
