To operate the joystick and gear lever, you can easily configure your own keyboard shortcuts.
See the second presentation video, which introduces driving in ‘realistic’ mode + use of custom shortcut keys.
When using these shortcuts for the first time, they are not saved in Trainz. You must choose your own shortcuts and enter them as explained below. Once you have done this, you will not need to repeat the process.

All six of these actions are pre-programmed and can be accessed via: Start Trainz / Main Menu / Settings / Control Settings.
Select the ‘Driver’ filter and scroll down to the bottom of the input area using the scroll bar on the right-hand side of the frame until the title ‘RGP Custom Driver Controls’ appears.
The keyboard shortcuts are already entered below. When you display this box for the first time, they will be empty by default. Once you have entered your shortcuts (e.g. Shift A corresponds to Shift + A), confirm by clicking on the tick in the bottom right-hand corner. You will not need to do this again.
