Trek is a unique opportunity to learn about our ancestors and relatives: their stories, their sacrifices, their struggles and victories. “Taking” an ancestor/relative with you on Trek will amplify your trek experience.
Each participant will be asked to bring the name of an ancestor/relative with them on trek. This does not need to be the name of a “Pioneer” relative, though that is great if you can find one. All trek participants should find a deceased ancestor or relative who has not yet had the opportunity to be baptized.
We will be going to the temple on August 8th to complete baptisms for the dead for these individuals.
The goal is not just to FIND these names, but to SPEND TIME WITH THEM, AND GET TO KNOW THEM AND THEIR STORIES!!
Our amazing family history committee will be working with each ward to find a time to help you in finding these names.
Your goal as you search for an ancestor:
First, pray for the spirit and guidance to find an ancestor you feel drawn to.
Learn their stories. The more you learn about your ancestor, the more meaningful this experience will be.
Some questions you should know and keep in mind as you are finding an ancestor for trek:
How are they related to you?
Where were they born?
What did they do for a living?
What is their backstory?
What were some of their life experiences as they pioneered their journey on earth?
How did your relative display pioneer attributes such as courage, faith, perseverance, sacrifice, obedience, consecration, etc.?
As you search for a relative, consider which relative’s story INSPIRES you? Which name do you feel PULLED toward? THAT is the name of the Pioneer Ancestor you will take with you on Trek! ☺️
Be prepared to share the name of the relative you’re “taking with you on trek," a little bit about their story, and ONE STRENGTH they possess that inspires you.
You will be asked to “introduce” your ancestor to your Trek Family, and walk for them, on Day One.
