The truth is that when I started this blog I was thinking a lot about the tools that I was going to use, since I wanted to use them myself first before I started recommending them to others.
And when I chose a tool, I was always looking for two things (among others): that it had a professional quality, but that it was easy to handle (no complications, here I always want to make things easy for you and step by step lol).
And of course the choice of the email marketing provider was no wonder.
Before, I had already been working with MailChimp, MailRelay, and had come to test Aweber as well .
They were all very good, but they always had something that was missing , and when it was not one thing it was another.
With MailRelay I decided to try at the beginning on my other blog because it was free, but the truth is that I did not have a very good experience.
MailRelay
For starters, it is quite complicated to handle . It is true that now its interface is friendlier than before and that it has been simplified a lot, but even so it is still not the most comfortable for newbies.
Integrations with plugins that allow you to create subscription forms are not the easiest thing in the world either (and I keep seeing it because I help Javier Gobea's clients in the support). It is true that they have tutorials where they explain it well, but the truth is that the best option for a newbie was not either.
And then, I had quite a few spam problems that tech support didn't know how to resolve.
I received email subscribers that did not exist, and most of them were from Russia. RUSSIA!!
It was really a roll, because those false subscribers were mixed with the real ones and in the end there was no one to clarify there.
So I decided to switch to MailChimp , which is the most used, and I said to myself: "Well, for a reason."
At first everything was fine, but later I missed a little more possibilities , since for the basics it is very good but immediately it is an option that falls short, especially when you want to segment subscribers or work with more than one list of subscribers .
Segmenting subscribers serves to separate your subscribers by interests and thus be able to send them emails that you know they will be interested in, without having to send it to all of them at the same time.
Then, if you wanted to use the autoresponder you had to pay (and you already knew you wanted to use it), so it no longer even had the advantage of being free .
And also some things are not entirely intuitive. I have had the opportunity to work with people who use MailChimp and the truth is that at first everyone gets quite a lot of trouble. Creating the welcome email to be sent to new subscribers is already something that requires a tutorial.
Total, I did not want to continue using the chuck service, so I had to find another alternative.
And I had been looking at GetResponse services for some time , so I decided to find out more.
Next I will explain everything I was looking for and that I analyzed about GetResponse, and the reasons why in the end I made the decision to stay with them, and why you should also value it (and more than a year later I do not regret it no way).
For me this was the fundamental thing.
In this blog you already know that I am addressing newbies who are struggling with WordPress or any technical issue on their blog, so I always try to keep things as simple as possible.
So I wanted to use a simple email marketing provider, to see how it worked and, if that, then show it to my followers .Honestly, as I have mentioned before, MailChimp does not seem too simple. There are things that are, but others not so much.
For example, in MailChimp creating the welcome email is not intuitive at all. In fact, it is an option that is quite hidden. And in general, from experience I know that it is a service that gives many headaches to those who do not know or do not have much time to dedicate to research.
This is one of the things that I liked the most about MailChimp, and that I missed the most in MailRelay, so it was clear to me that my next email marketing manager had to have a visual email creator .
GetResponse has it, and the truth is that it is quite simple to use , since it uses a drag and drop system (that is, you can drag and move things to reposition them in the email, as if it were a puzzle)
I also like it because, in addition to being simple, you can compose emails that are quite beautiful and different from what we are used to receiving and in a very short time.
I am quite sober with the design of my emails, but it never hurts to have that possibility when you want to send something special.
The autoresponder is a function that allows you to schedule emails that will be sent X days after a contact was signed.
For example, if you want to deliver a 10-day mini-course by email to your new subscribers, at the rate of one email a day, this would be done with an autoresponder, which allows you to create which email is going to be sent each of those days and then he takes care of all the work.
Or for example, if you want to send an email to a new subscriber after 5 days to welcome them, you can leave the email created and scheduled to be sent only to new subscribers when they have already subscribed for 5 days.
What can you think of a thousand things you can do with that technology?
Since most email marketing providers only offer autoresponder in their paid versions, and knowing that it was safe to use it , suddenly GetResponse became one of the cheapest , since the rest of the brands that let you have a gratifying account, however, they charge somewhat more expensive to have the autoresponder.
MailRelay is the only one that offers you the free autoresponder, but as I have already mentioned before, it is so complicated to handle, and I had so much trouble doing some things, that in the end it was not worth saving those $10 per month .
Well, the truth is that almost all email marketing providers are doing very well here.
Although one thing I did not like about MailChimp is that, if you have several subscriber lists because you have them separated by interests, and you wanted to send a newsletter to all of them at the same time, you had to go list by list and you could not send an email at once everyone, since MailChimp, when you prepare a newsletter, only lets you send it to one list at a time.
Luckily that does not happen with GetResponse, since you can send a newsletter to several campaigns at once (in GetResponse the lists are called campaigns, and it would be something like the place where the emails and the data of the people who subscribe are stored to your blog).
Also, and one thing that I like a lot, is that if you have a duplicate contact in several campaigns at the same time (because for example you are interested in having it that way) when sending a newsletter to those campaigns, the contact will not receive the email as many times as campaigns in which it is, but is smart enough to detect that duplication and send you the email once.
Better! This way you will not fill it with spam and you will be able to have duplicate contacts in several campaigns in case you need it.
Simple email marketing providerI acknowledge that this is something that did not influence my decision to use GetResponse, as it is something that I discovered later lol.
But hey, they are still two options that I love.
When you want to send a newsletter, you don't have to create it and send it on the spot, but you can let it create it to be sent on a specific day and time (so you can organize yourself in your own way and spend time with your children).
Well, the local time function is that if, for example, you program it to be sent at 9 in the morning, that email will be sent at 9 in the morning local time from your subscriber , not at 9 o'clock in the morning. the morning.
This is great if you have subscribers from other countries that are in another time zone, or even from other continents, since if the email were sent to your 9, it would arrive at a very strange time.
Therefore, when scheduling the email to be sent at 9 a.m. local time, as it will be sent to each subscriber at 9, not all emails will be sent at the same time, but when appropriate.
And the function of perfect timing is that, if you, for example, program the email to be sent at 9 o'clock, they will not all be sent at 9 o'clock, but they will begin to be sent during the 24 hours following the hour at the one that your subscriber usually opens your emails .
As GetResponse knows which subscribers open your emails and which don't, and also knows what time they usually do, it creates a statistic so that the email is sent around that time. Thus, when your subscriber accesses their email, your email will be among the first, and it will not have been completely buried by other emails (and therefore almost invisible).
That will make your open rates increase, and that you do not go so unnoticed by your subscribers.
For me it is quite important to be able to have the subscribers separated in several lists , at least to be able to differentiate the clients from the subscribers (to give a more preferential treatment to my clients).
This GetResponse feature allows you to do it through campaigns. As I have mentioned before, each campaign would be like a list where you can have different subscribers to be able to send them emails separately.
Being able to have different lists / campaigns, instead of a single list where differentiating subscribers with labels is much easier for me to manage , since it is a much more visual way of knowing what you have, what you don't , and where is each subscriber.
Also, as I have already mentioned before, even if I have several campaigns, if I want to send an email to all of them at the same time, I can do it and I don't have to send it campaign by campaign .
On the other hand, as with MailRelay I had a lot of spam subscriber problems (I received subscribers with fictitious email accounts), I didn't want that to happen to me again. And with GetResponse it has not happened to me again (thank goodness).
The double optin system works very well (for the record this MailRelay has it too, but still spam subscribers kept coming).
In addition, moving subscribers from one list to another, or being able to locate a specific person is extremely simple with the search engine it has.
Another thing I was looking for is for it to be easy to integrate into my blog. That is, it was easy to create subscription forms and link them with GetResponse .
GetResponse integrates with the most popular plugins that are used to create subscription forms, such as Thrive Leads , which is currently fashionable.
And it also integrates with a lot of other services, such as SendOwl, which is a platform that allows you to automate the sale of courses, or LeadPages, which is used to create landing pages.
The truth is that I am calm when I want to use a new plugin or service and I need it to integrate with my email marketing manager, because I already told you that with GetResponse almost everything works.
Well, the truth is that when I was looking for an email marketing provider to use the workflows I didn't know what it was, but the automations I did and I knew I wanted them.
Automations allow, for example, that a subscriber goes from one campaign to another when X passes, or that a subscriber who buys is duplicated and added to the customer campaign to have it located, or that if someone subscribes to a new campaign they are delete from the campaign in which it was already so as not to have it a thousand times out there.
This makes life a lot easier when it comes to work . It is true that you have to be careful when configuring these functions not to make any mistakes, but it is not difficult at all and then it saves many hours of work (especially when you already have a fairly large number of subscribers).
And the workflows is the same but in a big way.
For example, you can configure a workflow as a succession of events: imagine that a subscriber signs up for your newsletter, and on the second day you send him a survey with several options to see what topic is the one that interests him, and according to Clicking on one option or another can trigger a succession of automated email sending actions that you know will make you fall in love because you will receive content closely related to what you said you were interested in.
Possibilities of workflows are enormous and right now they are becoming very fashionable .
Or you can even configure a sales funnel, so that GetResponse sends an email or another to the subscriber depending on whether or not he opens your emails, or even if he buys something or doesn't buy it.
The truth is that the possibilities are enormous because they allow you to customize what each subscriber will receive based on their interests, so you don't send the same email to everyone even if they are not interested.
This was something that also interested me a lot.
The A/B tests consist in that, for example, when sending a newsletter you can create two different emails, with two different subjects to see which one works better and which one is more open .
So, what GetResponse does is send, for example, an email to 10% of your subscribers, and the other email to the other 10%, and the one that receives the most openings will be the "winner" and GetResponse will automatically send it to the other 80% of subscribers .
This is very good for autoresponders, since as it consists of a series of emails that you leave prepared before, you can go through tests to refine more and more and thus send emails through the autoresponder that achieve higher open rates.
This A/B test is a fairly advanced feature that I at least don't use every time I'm going to send an email, since always measuring these things and analyzing to improve requires a lot of time.
But of course it is very interesting that this possibility exists to improve your emails more and more and thus make them more effective.
Another thing was the price, since having free options I did not want to spend too much money .
And the truth is that GetResponse is cheaper than MailChimp in its paid version, and cheaper than the vast majority of email marketing providers, so that also helped convince me.
Given that I had already gone through other free alternatives and that I had not liked them, in the end I preferred to pay for a higher quality service .
This is one of the few expenses that I have on the blog and I think it is 100% worth it.
All this that I just told you about are the functions I was looking for in GetResponse, and now I'm going to tell you about some of the ones that I discovered later and that I also loved.
GetResponse has a 99% delivery rate , one of the highest on the market.
That means that 99% of your emails that you send will reach their recipients (there is always some email that gets lost and does not reach its destination, that is inevitable).
Send an email to all campaigns at the same time and that duplicate contacts do not receive them 2 times
I love this part, and it surprised me a lot, since if I have a contact in several different campaigns (for example, if they have bought two courses of mine, it will be in the campaign of each course), and I send a newsletter to those two campaigns to At the same time, that subscriber will not receive two identical emails, but GetResponse detects it and only sends it once.
With that you will be able to disturb your subscribers less and that your unsubscribe rate does not skyrocket. And it will make things much easier for you.
All of these are new things that they have been adding throughout the last year and that I have already been commenting on you.
The truth is that it is nice to see that the tool is constantly evolving.
I have rarely had to use it, but whenever I have needed it it has been great.
If you speak English, they have a chat and phone support system where they answer you in a matter of minutes.
If you prefer to do it in Spanish, they will only assist you by email, but they always respond quickly (usually less than 24 hours) and are very effective.
Without a doubt, that the technical support of something you are using is responsive and effective makes me feel more and more comfortable with them.
GetResponse has its own image catalog that you can use to add some color to your emails.
Normally I always use my own, but it never hurts to pull the ones they offer you.
The truth is that I do not use these functions (nor did I know they were there when I hired GetResponse for the first time), since for the subscription forms I use Thrive Leads and for the landing pages I use Thrive Content Builder .
But hey, it never hurts to have them in case one day you need them and want to throw them away, since they are included in the price.

My final word on GetResponse: This is a really good product, it offers both the functionality and ease of use that most other tools lack. I also like its excellent mechanisms for automating list management as well as its flexible and intuitive sequence editor.
Although the editor can be somewhat awkward to perform certain tasks, their templates are adaptable and good enough to create something useful. There's even an app for iOS and Android that not only lets you track, but also send newsletters on the go.
With its long list of powerful features (eg Autofunnel, automation, or landings pages creation ), GetResponse is doing a few things right.
In short, it is a versatile email marketing tool with which you should be able to do everything you want.
