Dr. Esra Akbas (PI) is an assistant professor in the Computer Science department at Georgia State University. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science at Florida State University. She leads the Data Engineering Lab (DELab) with a team of Phd, MS, and UG students. In DELab, they work on different problems from the algorithmic side of machine learning to applications on different real-world problems. Her research is in machine learning and data mining with a focus on relational data. Specifically, she works on graph mining, graph machine learning, network science, and social network analysis and their applications in social, biological, and medical domains. Her work has spanned various applications, including drug-drug interaction prediction, sequence classification, and analyzing social media data for public health issues like COVID-19 and opioid addiction.

Dr. Mehmet Aktas (Co-PI) is a clinical assistant professor in the Institute for Insight at Georgia State University - J. Mack Robinson College of Business. His primary research focus lies in machine learning and data science, with a specific emphasis on network science. He is particularly interested in utilizing topological data analysis (TDA) tools to address challenges in network matching and influence maximization problems and their applications in social, biological, and business networks. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Mathematics at Florida State University.
Dr. Murray Patterson is an assistant professor in the Computer Science department at Georgia State University. He obtained his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of British Columbia in 2012, followed by a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellowship with research stints in Europe. His research focuses on algorithmic solutions to bioinformatics challenges, producing software tools and scalable pipelines. He specializes in evolutionary biology, studying cancer progression through single-cell sequencing, inferring ancestral gene orders, and analyzing long-read DNA sequencing data for haplotype assembly. These projects offer insights into pathogen-host interactions across different time periods and geographical locations, contributing to our understanding of human susceptibility to disorders.
Dr. Farhan Tanvir is a lecturer in the Computer Science department at Georgia State University. He has completed a Ph.D. in Computer science from the Department of Computer Science at Oklahoma State University. Before coming to OSU, he graduated in 2015 from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, at the Islamic University of Technology, Bangladesh. His research mainly focuses on graph mining, with its applications in Bioinformatics/Computational Biomedicine.
