Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost?
Dues for new Scouts are $280 and are collected in September for the year. They cover the council registration costs, pack and den activities and achievements. Dues can be paid online or via check. Visit the Join page to learn more.
Are Cub Scouts the same as Scouts BSA?
Cub Scouting and Scouts BSA are both programs of the Boy Scouts of America — so in that sense, Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA members, and Venturers are all members of the same organization.
However, they are entirely different programs: Cub Scouting is a family-oriented program designed specifically to address the needs of younger boys and girls. Scouts BSA is designed to achieve the aims of Scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster.
What uniform and supplies are required?
At minimum, each child in Cub Scouting will need a uniform and a handbook.
In addition to a new handbook each year, Scouts will need a new cap and neckerchief for their uniform; but other uniform parts remain the same for at least the first three years. When the Scout becomes a Webelo, they may need to purchase need to obtain a new uniform if the parents in the den opt for the khaki-and-olive uniform.
Cub Scout uniforms help to create a sense of belonging and commitment. They symbolize character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Visit the BSA website to learn more about the uniform for each den/grade level. Scouting supplies can be purchased at a local Scout Store or the online Scout Shop.
Additional supplies and equipment may be needed for certain activities such as camping trips or field days. What equipment is needed, as well as whether it will be provided by the unit, will vary from den to den. Den and pack leaders will provide parents with information about any supplies that will be required at the beginning of each program year.
