Professor Bernd Stahl, alongside colleagues Helena Webb and Lydia Farina from the University of Nottingham, has been named project lead on one of seventeen newly awarded collaborative research projects that will advance excellence in the arts and humanities.

The projects are funded through the ongoing partnership between the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) and UK Research and Innovation’s Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). This latest tranche of awards brings the total number of projects supported by the collaboration since its inception in 2018 to 127, underscoring the strength of UK–German research ties and the shared commitment to fostering innovative, interdisciplinary scholarship.

The newly funded project will contribute to cutting-edge research addressing critical questions in the arts and humanities, reinforcing the University of Nottingham’s role as a leader in international research collaboration.

The ROSALIE project will make a crucial contribution to global discussions on ethics and responsibility in artificial intelligence (AI). The project aims to deliver robust and rich analysis of how responsibility is perceived, attributed, and enacted across diverse AI ecosystems. By exploring these dynamics, ROSALIE will help shape frameworks for responsible AI development and governance, ensuring that technological innovation aligns with societal values
