I am a Student Councillor (SC) and the President of Robotics(CCA). There were multiple instances where I have shown my leadership skills.
I am a Student Councillor (SC) and the President of Robotics(CCA). There were multiple instances where I have shown my leadership skills.
In my two years of being a member of the Student Council (SC) I have had multiple chances to show my leadership skills or to demonstrate my leadership qualities. One such occasion is the Secondary 1 orientation 2023. I was in charge of a game station with 2 other Student counselors. I needed to arrange the students into 4 groups and teach them the games. I gave clear instructions on how to play the games. They followed the instructions of the games and had fun playing the game. I was able to adapt when a class came earlier or later than the planned time, by going through the plan and changing the rules to make a more fast pace or slow pace game. Similarly, I was also a game master in the Secondary 1 Orientation 2024 and repeated what I did in the Secondary 1 Orientation 2023.
Another occasion is in the Student Council camp. During the camp, there was Running Man, which was a game where you were given clues to solve, it would lead us to an object that we needed to give to the Student Council leaders to win. I worked together with my teammates to solve the clues and find the object which was a flag in this case.
Even though we were not the winners, I have learnt how to work with my teammates better. Another chance is during Student Council duties where you need to clear out the canteen and the field. I had to be firm on telling them to go back to class. Sometimes there are some problems like when the students do not want to go back to class. Which we solves by telling them that they have the last goal or finish to tell them to finish their drink.
Another occasion is creation of the investiture slides, during which I had to work with my teammates and the other Student Councilors to finish my slides and to help them finish their part of the investiture. Last but not least, is the investiture rehearsals and investiture. I had to work with different CCA leaders and Student Councilors to organize the rehearsals. I and some other Student Councilors had to stay back and plan the schedule of the investiture. We also had to plan the way the CCA leaders would walk so that the Secondary 4 leaders would not hit the Secondary 3 CCA leaders during the actual investiture. I had to organize them in order of their CCA during the rehearsals with the help of another 2 student Councilors.
In my 1 year of being the President of robotics, I had several opportunities to showcase my leadership skills or exhibit my leadership qualities. One such opportunity is the Robotics Open House 2023. It was a trial for Secondary 1 to learn about what we do in Robotics and to learn about Coding. I helped the students who did not know what to do and taught them what to do and how to code.
Another opportunity is the Secondary 1 and Secondary 3 bonding that we have throughout the year. I and some of the other Secondary 3 students had to plan what games we were going to play with Secondary 1 students and bring the items needed for the games. During the Secondary 1 and Secondary 3 bonding sessions, I had to explain to the students how to play the games. Some of the other Secondary 3 and I students had to break into groups, to motivate the students to play the games and to help them play the games.
The third chance is the planning for our VIA(Values-In-Action). First, we had to decide on the aim of the VIA. All of us decided to help the elderly learn new skills. After that, we had to decide which skill we were going to teach the elderly. I asked the students about their ideas and from the ideas the students gave us, I and my Vice-Presidents decided on one of the ideas the Secondary 3 Students gave to me. However, there was a setback because a lot of the other schools are doing our idea, which is teaching the elderly how to use Instagram. Our teacher proposed teaching the elderly how to cook. We agreed to it.
The fourth opportunity is during the first official VIA session. During the VIA session, I had entrusted one of my vice-presidents to take care of the elderly who were arriving while I took care of the Secondary 1, and Secondary 3 students and the slides. After most of the elderly arrived, I escorted the elderly down the stairs to the computer lab. After they took a seat. I grouped some of the Secondary 1 and 3 students and told them to partner with one of the elderly. After, every elderly had a buddy we had the presentation and overview of what we were going to do, which was cooking. A few minutes after the presentation finished, we showed the elderly to the F&S lab where we taught the elderly to cook. After the cooking was over we cleaned up and finished for the day. Similarly, this happened on the second session of the VIA, with the Secondary 2 students instead of Secondary 1 students, it was a bit smoother because I learnt the mistake of what happened during the first session.
During my four years in secondary school, I encountered various opportunities to demonstrate my leadership skills and display the qualities associated with effective leadership. One opportunity is during my History group project. During my History group project 2023, I had to work with some of my classmates to create a poster. I had a vision of what the poster should be like. I asked them if they would like to follow my vision of the poster and continue with it. They agreed and we started to create the poster. I also helped organize us into doing different parts of the poster and the project so that we did the project efficiently.
Another opportunity was during the Sistemic. During Sistemic I had to work with some students to create a project to fix the problem which is based on real life. While we started creating ideas for the prototype I was. During lunch, one of the student councilors at National Junior College told us that there was a new rule, which was no water in the prototype. We faced a problem due to some of our ideas not being able to be produced due to the new rule. I adapted and asked them if we could build the turbine instead of the mist sprayer. Thus, solving the problem. I also told them that we could just put that on the poster rather than in the prototype. After lunch, we had to start building the prototype. I helped organize the group so that each one of us could help with one part of the prototype.
