Research misconduct is a gloval phenomenon. It takes place in every country in the world. The purspose of our project is to understand the unique factors, which drive research misconduct in non-Western contexts. The rationale for focusing on the contexts is because these areas of the world have received much less attention from the global scholarship than the Western world. Meanwhile, addressing the problem of research misconduct is very important in the contexts because in many of the non-Western countries research capacity is limited and the development of research is underminded by unethical and questionable research practices. The country cases represented in our project have been selected due to our familiarity with the countries and our personal interests as researchers to understand what is happening in our countries of residence/origin. By focusing on the countries we by no means want to say that the countries are particularly problematic and are "leaders" in research misconduct. We hope that the lessons we draw from the countries will provide insights for other countries in the world.
