Department News:
1/12/2024: Solomon-Lane Lab receives a NSF CAREER Grant! The Solomon-Lane Lab was awarded a 5-year CAREER grant from the National Science Foundation to investigate how early-life social environments shape neural and behavioral development. We do this work using a highly social fish as a model system. Funding will support research, student research positions, a lab technician, and education. 1/12/2024: Publication and grant received. Two alumni (Gabriella Seifert and Ava Sealander) were authors on a paper that was recently published in Biosystems! And Prof. Marzen just received some money as part of a DARPA grant to study alternative computing hardware using photonic devices and will soon be looking for an undergraduate to help her model these things. 11/6/2023: Dr. Ahn Pan joins chemistry faculty! Dr. Jia-Ahn Pan will join the department next academic year as an assistant professor of chemistry. Dr. Pan will teach a variety of chemistry courses and brings expertise in advanced nano-materials. We are excited to welcome him to Keck!

09/18/2023: Prof. Aaron Leconte gives invited research seminar at University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign. The Chemistry-Biology Interface Training Program students invited Aaron to give a seminar! Aaron was hosted by Susanna Barrett (Scripps '19) and Marya Ornelas (Pitzer '20)!
09/11/2023: Chemistry students present at national meeting of the American Chemical Society. This past August, students from the Wenzel, S. Williams, Leconte, and Van Arnam labs presented their research at the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in San Francisco!

10/16/2023: Marya Ornelas (PIT '20) publishes review article on evolution, microbial communities, and synthetic biology. In this review article, Marya and colleagues discuss how evolution can be leveraged to create microbes capable of useful functions for biotechnology and biomedical applications. 10/02/2023: Caitlyn Fick (SCR '19) publishes review article in RSC Materials Advances. In this review article, Caitlyn describes how to create and apply stable droplets in water. These technologies can be used in a range of applications from separation of biomolecules to wastewater treatment. 9/25/2023: Hayley Schultz (CMC '15) publishes research article in Open Heart. In this article, the researchers, led by Dr. Hayley Schultz (CMC '15), provide valuable information and guidance to doctors on how to help patients manage potential complications of congenital heart disease during pregnancy. 9/11/2023: Ellery Koelker-Wolfe (CMC '19) awarded NCAA postgrad scholarship. Ellery Koelker-Wolfe was one of 42 students nationwide awarded a postgraduate fellowship from the NCAA.
