Article I - Presidential Branch
The President and Vice President are the two people in the presidential branch. A main presidential election occurs when a president steps down or passes away to elect a new president. A vice presidential election occurs either every two years or when a Vice President steps down or passes away. A citizen running for President or Vice President must be at least fourteen years old at the time of the election and have not committed any felonies. After the President is no longer serving, the Vice President takes their place. When the vice president is no longer serving or has become president, the longest-serving representative on the Grand Assembly takes their place. The Presidential branch has the power of having the final vote on law creation.
Article II - Elections
Any citizen aged thirteen or older may vote. Elections will last twenty-four hours from six am in the time zone the capital resides in, to six am the following day. Candidates are allowed to invite people to apply for citizenship to gain votes, as that counts as campaigning. To hold any government job, a person must be younger than sixty-four at the time of election. These election rules apply for Presidential and Grand Assembly elections.
Article III - The Grand Assembly
The Grand Assembly is a group of up to nine representatives at a time. Every year on the first Saturday of spring, the longest participating representative will be removed and an election will be held to appoint a new representative or keep the representative in place. No representative may serve more than eighteen total years. To become a representative of the Grand Assembly, a citizen running for the position must be at least fourteen years of age and not have committed any felonies. Representatives propose notions and amendments to be voted on by the Grand Assembly first, before being voted on by citizens, and finally the President and Vice President.
Article IV - Citizenship
Any person wishing to become a citizen must either fill out a form provided by the President of Ardaria to gain a numerical code proving citizenship, called a security code, or be gifted citizenship from the President of Ardaria. Other citizenships a person has do not void their application for citizenship. Revoking citizenship has no punishment. Anyone who revoked their citizenship can apply again at any time. Citizenship can only be taken away if seven out of nine representatives and both the president and vice president agree to it. Citizens must have had citizenship for forty-eight hours before they can participate in any election. Citizenship can only be taken away as a punishment for a felony crime. To hold a government position, a person must be a citizen at the time of election.
Article V - Amendments
Any representative in the Grand Assembly may propose an Amendment. Seven out of nine of the Grand Assembly, or equivalent, must vote to propose the amendment to citizens. Citizens then vote to add the amendment and need a majority of votes for it to go to the executive branch, where either the President or Vice President must agree for it to be added. If any vote is not high enough, it returns to the original author or authors to be rewritten and voted on again at a later date. Each of these votes will occur on Tuesdays from nine am that Tuesday, to nine am the next Tuesday. The first vote within the Grand Assembly will occur on the soonest Tuesday after the amendment is proposed; If the amendment is proposed on a Tuesday, it will be voted on the following Tuesday. In the occurrence of a tie, there will be a revote the following Tuesday, repeating until the tie is resolved.
Article VI - Laws
Any law proposed by the Grand Assembly is called a Notion must have a majority vote to pass. If the Grand Assembly votes to pass a Notion, all citizens thirteen and older may also vote. Notions need sixty percent or higher agreement to pass the notion to the President and Vice President. If either the President or Vice President votes to pass it, it will become a law. If both vote not to pass it, it will not become a law. If any vote does not pass the notion, it will return to the original author or authors to be rewritten and returned to on a later date. Each of these votes will occur on Thursdays from nine am to nine pm the next day, a week after the previous. The first vote within the Grand Assembly will occur on the soonest Thursday after the amendment is proposed; if the amendment is proposed on a Thursday, it will be voted on the following Thursday. In the occurrence of a tie, there will be a re-vote the following Thursday until the tie is resolved. On the first of every month, any citizen can notify the President about a law they would like to be changed or removed. The following Saturday, the Grand Assembly will rewrite the law, and on Wednesday citizens will vote to keep the original law, keep the rewritten law, or abolish the law altogether. Any option requires a majority vote. In the occurrence of a tie, a second vote will occur the next Friday between the highest-voted options. Only one person in the Presidential branch needs to vote to pass the new law for it to go through. The presidential branch has forty-eight hours after the citizen vote ends.
Article VII - Rights
All people in Ardaria, regardless of citizenship, have the right to free expression. All citizens ages thirteen and older are able to vote in elections and vote on laws and amendments. All citizens are allowed into the military but are not required to join. All citizens have the same rights regardless of gender identity, sex, sexuality, race, nationality, or religion. Other than serving in the military and elections, noncitizens have the same rights as citizens in Ardarian law. All people in Ardaria have the right to practice any religion or no religion freely as long as it does not infringe on other people’s rights.
Article VIII - Ratification
A majority of citizens participating must vote in agreement of this constitution for it to go into effect. This vote will last twenty-four hours to account for different time zones. The Constitution of Ardaria will go into effect the Day after the voting period ends.
