2:30 pm [Optional] Hiking with Tekin Karadağ and Brett Collins or Gabriel Loos; meet by Biological Sciences Building. Bring water and a hat.
Longer hike with Tekin Karadağ and Brett Collins (2.5 to 3 hours): Biological Sciences Building to Lake Herrick, then from Lake Harrick to Art Museum, then from Art Museum to Cemetery through Oconee Greenway, and from Cemetery to Biological Sciences Building. There will be breaks for rest and to enjoy the scenery at a couple of points.
Shorter hike with Gabriel Loos (1 to 1.25 hours): Biological Sciences Building to Lake Herrick, then from Lake Harrick to Art Museum, then from Art Museum to Biological Sciences Building.
What to pack: The only part where you may need hiking shoes is around Lake Herrick which will not last more than 30 minutes and will not be too steep, so boots, hiking shoes, or walking sticks, in general, are not needed. But because of the heat, water bottles, hats or towels (use a hotel towel), and sunscreen are highly suggested (Tekin will bring sunscreen and ask from a couple of people too, so hopefully, the hiking leaders will have enough for those who forget).
Between 2:00 - 2:20 pm: you can leave your backpacks in Tekin's office (Boyd 624) or Brett's office (Boyd 633). It is also fine to carry your backpacks with you.
If you do not have a proper attire (such as wearing a dress), then it is not a problem. The activity is more like walking, not rugged hiking. See Tekin Karadağ, Brett Collins, or Gabriel Loos if you have questions or concerns.
2:00 pm [Optional] Georgia Museum of Art on campus will offer a tour of their permanent collection. The tour begins in the lobby of the museum. There is also an interesting exhibit of artist Kei Ito: Staring at the Face of the Sun, photography that examines the intergenerational trauma of nuclear disaster and the possibility of healing and reconciliation. Kei Ito's grandfather was a survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bomb.
12:00 - 5:00 pm [Optional] We have reserved Boyd 302, 303, 304, 322, and 323 for your use (small group collaboration, independent study, etc).
