After what feels like a century, Firefox for Android users can finally stop mourning the loss of third-party add-ons. Following the 2020 revamp that was supposed to make everything sleek and secure, users were left with a meager handful of extensions. Now as promised, proper extension support has finally arrived on Firefox on Android, allowing users to customize their browsing experience and bid farewell to some of the web's most irritating quirks.

Mozilla initially said in August of this year that it was finally bringing its open extension platform to Firefox for Android. After some testing and tinkering, the organization has now made more than 450 extensions up for grabs. You're welcome.

There's a smorgasbord of options for almost everyone at the moment, says Mozilla. The organization has promised even more extensions in the coming months, and as the user base widens, it's expecting developers to step up their game.

Extension support is one of the highly anticipated additions to Firefox on Android. This nifty addition not only sets Firefox apart from the crowd but also promises to level up your browsing game. Mozilla has rolled out a dedicated Android extensions page where you can easily pick and choose your favorites to amp up your Firefox experience.

In September of 2013 NLS released version 1.0 of the BARD Mobile app for iOS, which ran on iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches. Using this app, NLS patrons could quickly scan newly added books and magazines, download them to their devices, then listen to, bookmark, and navigate their way through the entire NLS digital collection. As an iPhone and iPad user, I was thrilled. Android users still had to use a separate device to play Talking Books, but finally, with the recent release of the BARD Mobile for Android app, they, too, now have a single-device reading solution.

Both the Android and iOS apps feature navigation bars with Bookshelf, Get Books, and Now Reading, tabs running across the bottom for iOS and the top for Android. The iOS version includes a Settings tab. The Android version places app settings in the More Options menu, where you will also find controls specific to the task at hand, along with context-sensitive help and a link to your device's accessibility settings.

BARD Mobile for iOS includes two additional options here: Braille Books and Braille Magazines. I was told by an NLS representative that they are waiting for a few necessary BrailleBack feature updates before they can provide a workable braille reading solution.

The iOS app adds dates to the title lists, such as "Today," "Thursday," or "June 1." The Android app does not include dates, which can make it difficult to know how far down to scan if you are like me and prefer checking in just once or twice a week to see what's new. Also, neither app uses heading or link elements, so you can't change TalkBack granularity to facilitate quick navigation. More often than not, I find it much easier to visit the BARD website and browse books there. I can use my screen reader's headings quick navigation key to move rapidly through the Recently Added Books and Magazines pages, add books that pique my interest to my Wish List, then download them to my device from there.

As mentioned above, when you open a book or magazine from the Bookshelf tab, the book begins to play automatically. You are placed into the Now Playing screen, where touch controls emulate the hardware playback controls on the Digital Talking Book Player.

Additional app controls include Navigation and Bookmark, which are located above the nine primary playback controls. The Navigation button summons and displays a list of sections, with titles where available, that you can use to advance immediately to the desired chapter or section. You can also advance to any of the time stamped bookmarks, which are created by pressing the "Bookmark" button, located just above the "Next" button.

There is another major app feature lacking on both platforms, and which is not a current accessibility limitation. Both Audible and Kindle synch downloads, bookmarks, and last-played positions between and among various devices logged into the same account. With the release of BARD Mobile for Android, it's now more likely than ever that NLS patrons will wish to play content on more than one phone or tablet. This capability is not included in the latest iOS app beta version, however, so it may be quite a while before listening to Talking Books becomes a truly mobile experience.

It seems the company wanted to tie in the announcement of the new Android version with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro launch. In true Google fashion, some new Android 14 features are reserved only for the latest Pixel phones.

The Google Pixel Watch has been one of the most highly-anticipated devices to be released over the past few years. Now that the wait is finally over, Google has done a fantastic job delivering a blend of fast and smooth software with an industrial design worthy of its price tag.

The wait is finally, and I mean, FINALLY over, as the Pixel Watch was first introduced at I/O 2022 before being fully unveiled during an event in New York. It's just crazy to think that it took Google this long to release a smartwatch, as we've seen Apple, Samsung, and Fitbit dominate the market for years at this point.

The Google Pixel Watch is available to order from many of your favorite retailers, including Google's online storefront, Amazon, and others. There is only one size available, 41mm, but you have a choice of four different bands to choose from. Pricing for the Pixel Watch starts at $349 for the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi version and goes up to $399 for the LTE variant.

The model that I have been using is the Matte Black case with Obsidian Active band, although I'm kind of regretting not opting for the Polished Silver case. Regardless of what case you get, there's no denying that the Pixel Watch offers a premium build. The rotating crown has slowly become my primary way of scrolling through notifications, as the little "bumps" that I feel from the haptic feedback are both subtle and very satisfying.

Speaking of haptics, "subtle and satisfying" is pretty much how I would describe the entire experience. I have yet to miss an incoming notification because the buzz on my wrist wasn't strong enough, although, which is great. However, I do wish there was a way to adjust the haptics, just for those times when I might swap out bands for something a bit looser.

To be frank, there's another aspect of the design that I continue to forget about, and that's the included button hidden on the right side of the watch above the crown. One push of the button makes your Recent apps menu appear while holding the button in will invoke Google Assistant. Honestly, I've used it maybe two or three times, instead, relying on just interacting with the screen if I need to open different apps.

There's something to be said about seeing pictures and renders of a product and then actually being able to see it in person. Leading up to the announcement, I was definitely worried that the Pixel Watch's screen would be a disappointment. Bezels are a necessary evil, but the renders and pictures we saw didn't leave me feeling too great about how the Pixel Watch would look on my wrist.

Out of the box, there are a total of eight different watch faces that Google includes, all offering something a little bit different from the other. But you can also dive deeper into each option to customize things such as the accent color and available complications. I've also been so satisfied with the default options that I haven't even tried to install any third-party watch faces from the Play Store, and that will probably remain the case, for a little while at least. ff782bc1db
