1. I took quite a few IMPLICIT Tests. The first one I took was about Donald Trump and it stated that, “Your data suggest a neutral automatic attitude toward Donald Trump.” I do not think this is correct because I do have an automatic attitude towards him. I also took a test on leading and following between males and females. My result for that was, “Your data suggest little or no automatic association between Female and Male with Leader and Follower.” I think that is correct. I didn’t learn any insights about myself. I do believe that I am not exempt of having any biases. The test just couldn’t pick up on them. This has led me to have no implications. Although, I believe I still need to realize that everyone has biases, including me, and I need to disregard them as much as possible. I also took other tests but they all came back as no automatic preference or association.
What I got from the two articles that I read was, everyone needs to become aware of stereotypes and other forms of racism that are being accepted as normal in today’s society. We need to change the habit of ignoring racism and stereotypes in ourselves and in others. I think these articles were really enlightening and shocked me in a couple of ways for example how people accept they have biases and cannot do anything about it or people believing that they don’t have biases at all. We may not realize that we are being biased when we are, so we need to be tolerant of other people’s beliefs and ideas. Teachers must make an effort to look at their students through unbiased eyes so that their classrooms are safe, comfortable, and in an optimal environment for learning. It is important to keep an open minded and to become more aware of the social, racial, and economic situation in the classroom and constantly remember to be sensitive to students.I appreciated the encouraging of teachers to open their heads and hearts to new understandings, embracing the journey, and embracing their students.
