I have really enjoyed our class. I learned so much about the diverse backgrounds of my fellow classmates. I learned a great deal about the sufferings of people with a different cultural background than my own. I also learned the importance of understanding the backgrounds and cultural differences of each individual. This class allowed me to think from other perspectives. I thoroughly enjoyed our discussions in this small setting. I was unaware of the severity of racism still pertinent today. I was living obliviously until this class. I have learned so much about the injustices that are still relevant and are blindly being continued. Such as all the voices that are still missing from textbooks, although there is so much more. I also enjoyed learning about the unconscious biases that people have. This class was a saving grace for me this semester. After a very hard semester taking classes all online and problems in my personal life this class opened my eyes, allowed me to think from other perspectives, and made me feel like part of a community. I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to be a part of this class. I feel I have grown a lot from taking this class and my eyes are now open. To reference Plato’s allegory of the cave, I can see a glimpse of the real world after a theatre of shadows performing in front of me this whole time.
