Your prayer for his soul would be the greatest gift.
Remy D. Schoone was born in West Tarentum to late Damien Gustave and Margaret (Leipertz) Schoone on December 5, 1927. He attended Tarentum High School and night school at the University of Pittsburgh.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (United States Army).
On his return from Korea, he worked at Allegheny Valley News Dispatch as a typesetter.
He married Evelyn Wintgens on May 13, 1957 in Tarentum, PA.
Remy took advantage of the GI Bill allowing war veterans to further their education and attended evening engineering classes at the University of Pittsburgh. With this education Remy was hired at U.S. Steel's Edgar C. Bain Laboratory for Fundamental Research (U.S. Steel Research for short) in Monroeville, PA. where he worked in the physical metallurgy department.
In 1964 they moved their growing family to a new home in Holiday Park, Plum Borough, PA.
After 25 years he retired from U.S. Steel Research, but quickly found a new challenge working with Timken Research.
In 1984, Remy and Evelyn moved to North Canton, OH where Remy started a new career with Timken Research in the mechanical testing department. Upon his second retirement, he continued to work for Timken Research as a consultant.
In 2015, Remy and Evelyn moved to Louisville, KY to be closer to their daughters. Remy enjoyed gardening, reading and attending dinner theater in his retirement.
Remy is survived by his wife Evelyn of 63 years, Remy (Cheryl) Schoone of Pine Twp PA, Amy (Ken) Linfield of Colorado Springs CO, Kurt (Helen) Schoone of Venice FL, Terri Schoone of Louisville KY and Matthew (Asli) Schoone of Greensboro NC. 11 grandchildren, Cory and Kristen Linfield, Jessica and Christopher (Kurt and Helen’s children), Samuel, Gabriel and Peter (Remy and Cheryl’s children), Cooper, Nathan, Ava, and Talin (Matthew and Asli’s children).
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Alva, Elmira, Gloria and June Schoone and brothers Gustave, and Raymond. His youngest sister Margaret (Peggy) Hanson lives in Twin Valley MN.
NOTE: Oct. 1st the the feast day for St. Remy.
In addition, the first weekend in October is the St. James Art Show in Louisville. It is one of the largest shows in the country. Seems appropriate that his memorial mass should be scheduled this weekend filled with artists.
