Remoto: Universal TV Remote
Effective date: October 21, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Remoto: Universal TV Remote app ("Remoto", "the app", "we", "us") handles, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the Android app with the package name app.remoto.tv, version 1.0.0 and later.
If you have any question about this policy, write to contact@remototv.app.
1. Who we are
Remoto is developed and published on Google Play by the Remoto team (the "developer"). You can reach us at contact@remototv.app.
Remoto has no user accounts. You do not need to sign up, sign in, or give us your name to use the app.
2. The short version
- The app talks to the TVs on your own Wi-Fi network. Your saved TVs, pairing codes and settings stay on your phone.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Google's ads SDK collects some device data to show and measure ads (see section 4.1).
- Subscriptions are bought and managed through Google Play. We never see your card or payment details.
- If you choose to send us a problem report, we receive what you put in that report (see section 4.3).
- Voice control uses your phone's built-in speech recognition service (see section 4.4).
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use analytics or crash reporting tools of our own.
3. Information that stays on your device
To work, the app stores the following on your phone, in the app's private storage. We do not receive this information.
- Saved TVs: the name, network address (IP address), brand, model and port of TVs you connect to, and for some TVs their network hardware (MAC) addresses so the app can wake the TV with Wake-on-LAN.
- Pairing credentials: the codes, tokens, keys or certificates a TV gives the app after you approve the connection, so you do not need to pair again every time.
- App settings: your language, theme, haptics and layout choices, onboarding status, preferred TV brand, and your pinned and favorite TV apps.
- Plan status: whether you have an active subscription or trial, cached so the app works offline.
- Free usage counter: how many remote commands you used today on the free plan.
- Ad state: a flag that records whether the app has been opened before, used for ad display rules.
- Unsent problem report: if a report could not be sent, a draft (message, optional email, screenshot file paths and your device-details choice) is kept on the phone until it is sent or you clear it.
- Connection events: a short in-memory list of recent connection results (for example "connected" or "failed", the time, and the TV brand). It does not contain TV names, IP addresses, MAC addresses or tokens, and it is not saved after the app closes. It is only sent if you send a problem report from the connection error screen.
You can remove a saved TV from the TV list in the app. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android Settings, deletes all of the information above.
4. Information that leaves your device
4.1 Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version of Remoto shows ads using the Google Mobile Ads SDK (Google AdMob) and asks for your consent where required using Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). Subscribers do not see ads, and the app does not request ads for them.
According to Google, the Mobile Ads SDK automatically collects and shares the following for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention:
- IP address, which may be used to estimate the general location of your device.
- Product interactions, such as app launches, taps and ad views.
- Diagnostic information, such as app launch time, hang rate and energy usage.
- Device identifiers, such as the Android advertising ID and app set ID.
Google states that this data is encrypted in transit. Google's description is here: https://developers.google.com/admob/android/privacy/play-data-disclosure
Your choices:
- If you are in a region where consent is required (for example the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, or certain US states), the app shows a consent form before ads are requested. You can change your choice at any time in the app under Settings > Ad privacy choices when that option is shown.
- You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ads personalization, in your Android device settings (for example Settings > Google > Ads or Settings > Privacy > Ads, depending on your device).
- On iOS, the app asks for permission before allowing tracking (App Tracking Transparency). If you decline, the advertising identifier is not shared.
- Subscribing to Premium removes ads.
How Google uses this data is described in Google's policy: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
4.2 Subscriptions (Google Play Billing)
Premium subscriptions (weekly, monthly, and yearly with a free trial) are sold through Google Play Billing. Google Play processes the payment and handles your payment information. We do not receive or store your card number, billing address or Google account password. The app asks Google Play which subscription is active on your account and keeps that status on your phone. We do not run a server that stores your purchases.
Google Play's handling of your data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
4.3 Problem reports (optional)
You can choose to send us a problem report from Help & FAQ > Report a problem, or from the link shown when the app cannot reach your TV. Nothing is sent unless you tap Send report. A report contains:
- the problem type you selected and the message you typed;
- your app language (for example "en" or "de") and whether the report came from Help or from a connection error;
- your email address, only if you enter it (it is optional and used only to reply to you);
- up to 3 screenshots, only if you add them. You pick them with the Android photo picker; the app does not get access to your whole photo library. Images are resized and re-compressed when you pick them, and the app does not ask for their full photo metadata. Please hide anything personal before adding a screenshot;
- device details, only if "Include device details" is turned on (it is on by default and you can turn it off): your phone's maker and model, Android version, app version, and the brand of the TV you were using;
- a connection log, only for reports sent from the connection error screen: the recent connection events described in section 3 (event type, time, TV brand).
A report never includes your TV's name, IP or MAC addresses, pairing tokens, keys or certificates.
Reports are sent over the internet to a server operated for us. Like any web request, the server can see the IP address the request comes from. We use reports only to understand and fix problems, and to reply to you if you gave an email address. We do not use reports for advertising and do not sell them.
4.4 Voice control
When you use the Voice feature, the app asks for microphone permission and uses your phone's built-in speech recognition service (on most Android phones this is provided by Google). The app does not record or store audio itself. Depending on your device and settings, the speech service may process your voice on the device or send it to its provider to turn it into text. That processing is covered by the speech service provider's privacy policy (for Google: https://policies.google.com/privacy).
The app receives only the recognized text. It uses that text to send a command, open an app, or type text on your TV over your local network. The text is not sent to us.
4.5 Links you open
Links in the app (such as this policy, the Terms of Use, or the Google Play subscriptions page) open in your browser or the Google Play app. Those services have their own privacy policies.
5. Local network use
Remoto works by talking directly to TVs and streaming devices on the same Wi-Fi network as your phone. To do this it:
- searches your local network for TVs using standard discovery methods (mDNS and SSDP multicast);
- connects to a TV you choose, using that TV's own control protocol, to pair, send button presses, typed or spoken text, and app launch requests;
- for some TV models, sends a Wake-on-LAN packet on your local network to turn the TV on.
This traffic goes only between your phone and the devices on your network. It is not routed through our servers and we do not receive it. During pairing some TVs show a name for the app (such as "Remoto") so you can recognize it; for some older Samsung TVs the app also tells the TV your phone's local network address, as that protocol requires.
6. Permissions and why we ask for them
- Internet (INTERNET): Talk to TVs on your network, load ads, check subscriptions with Google Play, and send problem reports you choose to send.
- Network and Wi-Fi state (ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, ACCESS_WIFI_STATE): Check network connectivity and Wi-Fi status, used by the app and by the Google ads SDK.
- Multicast (CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATE): Receive discovery replies from TVs on your Wi-Fi network.
- Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO): Voice control only. Android asks you the first time you open Voice, and you can say no or turn it off later in Android Settings. Everything else works without it.
- Vibration (VIBRATE): Vibrate when you press a button. You can turn this off in the app's Settings.
- Advertising ID (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID): Used by the Google Mobile Ads SDK as described in section 4.1.
- Google Play billing: Buy and restore subscriptions through Google Play.
The app does not ask for your location, contacts, phone number, camera, or access to your files or photo library.
7. Children
Remoto is a general utility for controlling TVs and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us a problem report containing personal information, contact us at contact@remototv.app and we will delete it.
8. How long we keep information
- Information on your device (section 3) stays until you remove it in the app, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app.
- Problem reports (section 4.3) are kept only as long as needed to look into the problem and reply to you, and no longer than 12 months, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.
- Data collected by Google AdMob and Google Play is kept according to Google's own policies.
9. Your rights and how to delete your data
Because the app has no accounts, the only personal information we may hold about you is what you included in a problem report.
To ask for a copy of, a correction to, or deletion of a problem report, email contact@remototv.app from the email address you used in the report, or describe the report (date, approximate time, and the problem type) so we can find it. We will reply within 30 days.
For data held by Google (ads and purchases), use your Google account and device settings, or Google's privacy tools at https://myaccount.google.com/.
10. International users
We may process problem reports in countries other than where you live. Wherever it is processed, we protect it as described in this policy.
- EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR): we process problem reports based on your consent (you choose to send them) and our legitimate interest in fixing the app. Ads processing relies on the consent you give in the consent form, which you can change in Settings > Ad privacy choices. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your data, to data portability, and to complain to your local data protection authority.
- US states (for example California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut): we do not sell your personal information in exchange for money. Sharing device data with Google for ads may be considered "sale" or "sharing" for targeted advertising under some state laws; you can opt out using the consent or privacy choices form in the app (when shown in your region), your device's ads settings, or by contacting us. You can also ask to know, correct or delete personal information we hold. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
11. Security
Problem reports and Google services use encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Pairing credentials are kept in the app's private storage on your phone. Some TVs only accept unencrypted connections on the local network, so commands sent to those TVs are not encrypted; they do not leave your network. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect the information we handle.
12. Third-party services
- Google AdMob and User Messaging Platform: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and https://developers.google.com/admob/android/privacy/play-data-disclosure
- Google Play (store and billing): https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Your phone's speech recognition service (Google on most Android phones): https://policies.google.com/privacy
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app changes. We will change the effective date at the top and, for important changes, tell you in the app or on the Google Play listing. Using the app after an update means the updated policy applies.
