REMOTE TEACHING TOOLS

ADVICE from DARREN SMITH, Chair of Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science

If you are using publisher software, it is likely that you already have resources available such as publisher created videos, PowerPoint slides, animations and more. You do not have to have any live (synchronous) lecture sessions with your students, as a matter of fact, I would discourage it. The demand on the network with so many people trying to use the services (Blackboard Collaborate, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.) will likely create unreliable connections for both you and those who would like to participate. If you would still like to hold such sessions, please consider the following:

  1. You can’t require students to participate at a specific time, such as your normal class schedule

  2. Holding live sessions during evening/night hours and be sure to record the session for those who can’t attend

POPULAR PLATFORMS

OTHER WEB CONFERENCING TOOLS

Try the following tools in case of network bottlenecks with the above platforms.

ONLINE WHITEBOARDS and APPS

Whiteboard apps allow you to use your computer or mobile device to be used as a whiteboard where you can write or draw freehand style as you'd do in your classrooms. Combine this with screen sharing apps to enhance your remote instruction experience.
