As digital devices have become increasingly widespread in educational settings in recent years, the processes of learning and teaching are now recorded as detailed data. Such educational data offers significant potential for research that was previously difficult, including studies on the learning process. However, due to privacy constraints, secondary use of educational data has made little progress.
In response, this project aims to develop a system/framework called ReLEAF. ReLEAF supports the secondary use of data from the digital learning platform LEAF. At the same time, it proposes a framework for the trustworthy secondary use of educational data. By carefully reusing the “fallen leaves” (data) left behind by the LEAF system, the project aims to create fertile ground that will enhance education for future learners.
ReLEAF consists of three UIs: Lab, Review and Trust. In Lab, researchers can browse meta-data, manage projects and submit real-data validation requests. In Review, trained experts review each submission. In Trust, data subjects (students), their gurdians and teachers can monitor the secondary use (e.g. the number of active researchers). Publications are registered to the ReLEAF Outputs Registry and shared with stakeholders
