Eldritch Horror in darkened nature...
Don’t Look Now, 2025
The artwork I made to contribute to the group project is a sculpture that is meant to look like a ribcage. It looks like a human ribcage but dibber and longer meant to for the main creature. I used cardboard and paint to make my main piece. I cut and glued the cardboard together looking at a human ribcage for reference. Then I rolled up some newspaper and taped it onto the spine to make the round parts of the bons. Then I mixed my own brown paint and added it to gesso and painted it on, making the piece have a hint of dirtiness on it. I also made some smaller bones with some leftover gesso I mixed up. Since I painted the cardboard, the original structure began to collapse a bit since the cardboard was wet from the paint. To try and fix that problem, while I was letting the ribcage dry overnight, I placed some blocks between the spine and the ribs to help hold it up while it dried. It did help for a bit but unfortunately fell down on itself after standing on its own for a few minutes. I did not mean for the ribcage to be more collapsed in the final product but now I feel like it matches the vibes that I am trying to make the viewer feel. A broken and collapsed ribcage next to a monster makes it seem that it would have broken down some and would not have been able to hold itself up any longer after having been lying next to the creature for who knows how long.
In the exabition I put a humidifier being it that I brought, it was emitting fog that looks like smoke up into the air. Ther person would see the smoke first then look down and see the ribcage. There is also a line of lights leading to the art I made. The audience member is supposed to feel unsettled when seeing the creature than a ribcage on the ground next to it. I hope they will wonder if the creature ate or killed something and that is where the ribcage came from.
