Holocaust & Contemporary Genocide Seminar
Join us for the Holocaust and Contemporary Genocide seminar with Hilary Levine and Tosha Tillotson from Avenues for Change, as they share content, ideas and tools to support educators who teach about the Holocaust and similarly difficult topics. Participants will analyze historical sources to better understand the underlying causes that led to the Holocaust, the complex roles of the nonJewish community, the response from the international community and the lasting impact on those who survived. Educators will walk away with strategies and resources that help students to make connections between the Holocaust and current events.

On September 10, 2020, the State Board of Education (SBE) adopted criteria and guidance to award a State Seal of Civic Engagement (SSCE) to California students who demonstrate excellence in civics education and participation, and an understanding of the United States Constitution, the California Constitution, and the democratic system of government. By adopting these criteria, California joined a small but growing number of states that formally recognize and promote student civic engagement with seals to affix to student transcripts, diplomas, or certificates of completion.
