You have dreamt your whole life of that romantic walk down the aisle. The day has come and you want that moment to be perfect.
Music is a key factor to many different parts of your wedding: cocktail reception, video montages, first dance and more. However, the first couple march-in is the most important of them all as it sets the tone and atmosphere for the entire wedding ceremony. Do you want a song with lyrics that describes your love story? A fun and upbeat number to start the celebration? Or a grand musical piece to accentuate your entrance?
If the thought of Ed Sheeran’s Perfect on your wedding playlist is enough to freak you out, then this article is for YOU.
I did the work and here are my top 5 choices of wedding march-in songs you never knew of:
#1 Enya – Only Time
This is a beautiful piece by Enya, perfect for that solemn and grand entrance. The music is flowing, the orchestral arrangement is tastefully done and Enya’s spacey vocals is that extra topping on the cake.
Imagine the ballroom doors opening with the spotlights on you as you make your grand entrance to the guests. This is definitely one of my favourites!
#2 Emily Hackett & Will Anderson – Take My Hand (The Wedding Song)
If you are big into lyrics then this is the right song for you. Every bit of the lyrics speaks love and wedding, you can never go wrong with this one! A sweet duet with simple acoustic arrangement, I would imagine it to be the sweetest add-on if you are planning a garden or outdoor wedding.

#3 Sara Bareilles – I Choose You
When this song first came out in 2014, Sara Bareilles had a very interesting marketing project with her team where she helps two couples propose to their loved ones. (You can watch this in her music video) The song expresses love and the desire to spend the rest of your life with that special someone, and I just love the upbeat feel that lifts spirits at weddings!
#4 Chantal Kreviazuk – Feels Likes Home
I have no idea how to pronounce her name but this is a sweet number if you are planning a simple wedding with close friends and relatives. The clean music arrangement makes her vocals shine, the lyrics are a perfect fit for weddings. I have NEVER heard this song being played even once in the hundreds of weddings I have performed in, so if you want something different, this is it.
#5 Etta James – At Last
A retro-themed wedding would not be complete without this song in your wedding playlist. To be honest, I find this more suitable as a song for a first dance, or father and daughter dance. The reason why I included this as one of my top choices is due to the rise in “dance-ins” in replacement of the traditional “march-ins” that I have seen in recent years. So yes, if you want your march-in to be memorable, why not consider a “dance-in” instead? :)
