Certificates:
Humanistic Integrative Counseling, Psychodynamic Integrative Counseling, Psychodrama Theory & Practice, Therapeutic Spiral Model Experiential Trauma Therapy (level 2).
I come to this creative work from a varied path that mixes my training and experience in psychotherapy, counseling, acting and directing.
For six years I trained in various therapeutic modalities including psychodynamic integrative, humanistic integrative, psychotherapy psychodrama. I chose not to qualify as a therapist but rather work with these modalities in bringing emotional literacy and wellbeing strategies to actors in the context of character development. I developed Actor Care®, a non-therapeutic model for supporting actors in the development of characters with distressing story narratives. Actor Care® has been presented at the International Association of Group Psychotherapy and Group Processes (Italy), Musicians’ and Performing Artists’ Health and Performance (Norway), the Australian Society for Performing Arts Health, Association for Theatre in Higher Education (USA), The S-Word Symposiums (UK), Performing Arts Medicine Association (USA) and, Association of Acting Coaches & Educators (Canada). The significance of Actor Care® has also been documented in the book series Stanislavsky and... (Routledge, Taylor/Francis).
In my past life I worked for nearly 20 years as an educational film director under contract with the Centre for Research and Education on Violence Against Women & Children. A charitable organisation based at Western University in London, Ontario Canada. On the side, I directed a handful of multiple international award-winning short films. Prior to that I was a talent agent for 10 years and a struggling actor before that. So, you can see I am living proof of 'revising your character changes your story'!
I have found that my work in Actor Care® also attracted non-actors, therapists and psychologists who work creatively. reflect.revise.repeat is a response to this and invites anyone who has a creative inclination for self-reflection and personal growth to develop their own characters from which they can learn about themselves in a contained and confidential space.
Please do keep in mind I am not a licensed therapist though all my training is with accredited institutions and my frontline experience was under qualified clinical supervision. I also consult with a qualified clinical supervisor in my current work and I'm a proud member of the Association of Acting Coaches & Educators and abide by their Code of Conduct.
