The Redwood Groove Band

You can and will find us all over the San Lorenzo Valley and Santa Cruz County at venues located in almost every city. Find dates here on our calendar or on our Facebook page. Multiple performances each month all over the Bay Area. Our 2024 goal is to continue moving and grooving with the same high energy, drive, excitement, and determination that we've always had, but this year to have more fun than any band should ever be allowed to have!

Debra Lee Andersohn

Brad and Debra met in 1990 in a bar called Abernathy's in Walnut Creek, CA, a nice venue where his band was playing. "He pulled me into his musical world, having me sing on some of his original recordings. There was immediate magic! We played in cover bands, church bands, tribute bands, and original bands, including an original family project with our kids. We also recorded other original music together and formed our Duet, DebraLee Darling, and her BRAD HABIT” Performing vintage music on the ukulele, and evolving into a strong acoustic duet.

For me personally, as a young teen, my sister used to play all the best classic rock, exposing me to the greatest singers, and musicians.  I always say that I came out of the womb singing harmony, as it just comes naturally to me.  These vocal bands like Fleetwood Mac, Journey, etc., (plus so many more) taught me how to pick out parts and further develop my ear. Even though I’m a lead vocalist, I love singing harmony even more. I choose songs that move me deeply. I feel that when you do that, it gets delivered in a very passionate way to your audience. It’s not just about playing music. It’s about connecting to people and building community.

Brad Andersohn

Brad started playing guitar when he was 12. His mom bought him a wood box acoustic from Gemco. They later used it for firewood as it was so unplayable! Brad's roots in the Bay Area are long and deep. Brad has performances and openings for some of the local greats like Yesterday and Today (Y&T), Robin Trower, Paul Gilbert, Eric Martin, and Billy Shehan with Mr Big, Blue Oyster Cult, The Tom Landry Band (KSJO), and Pearl Heart and the Cosmic Blues Band. (Janis Joplin's band with Sam Andrews and Snooky Flowers) Also did studio work and recording with David Sikes, bass player from the band Boston. In Hawaii, Brad took home 2 awards from the 98 Rock radio station riff contests. Neal Schon and Carlos Santana both awarded Brad 1st Place along with 2 brand new guitars. An Ibanez and an Arbor destroyer.

Brad and Debra met back in the 90s in Walnut Creek. They have been playing music together ever since. Started recording original music together then played in a cover band, then on a worship team, then as a duet, then a tribute band, and now, Redwood Groove. Yes, they fell in love and were married and have 3 beautiful adult boys carrying on their musical gifts and talents. The two also performed and recorded for America’s Got Talent (season 5) with their family band of kids.

"Music is so powerful. Songs can stick in your head all day because it’s the last one you hear. Music can change the mood of the movie you’re watching. People have favorite songs for a reason and we love to find out those reasons when we play those songs. It’s really what connects us to our audience. Our gigs go way beyond having fun, singing, dancing, etc. We love to connect and move audiences through their experiences and memories that are connected to the songs we perform. That’s the groove we want to leave. People forget our name, they forget our band, they may even forget our songs, but they’ll never forget how we made them feel. It’s what matters most to us."

Patrick Hughes

Each member of this band brings their amazing talent and many years of experience to the table which is exactly what makes this band Redwood Groove so uniquely talented. I met the band back in mid-August of 2021. I have always sung background/backup vocals and I love that each song requires everyone to be fully harmonized. Perfected blending which is so important for our band.

Pat and his wife Robin lived in Ben Lomond for five years and love the Santa Cruz Mountains. Patrick has recorded in studios before, he cannot wait to do so with his Redwood Groove family. It's only January and I strongly believe without hesitation that Redwood Groove will make a HUGE mark in the music industry here in Santa Cruz and beyond in 2024!

Leslie Heinrichs

I met the band through auditioning for Redwood Groove as the bass player. I saw their post on Facebook and went for it! I grew up playing piano in the 5th grade which helped me transition to bass many years later. I started playing bass when I lived in Austin 8 years ago. I played in many tribute and cover bands in Austin which gave me huge opportunities and growth. The most memorable would be playing at the House of Blues in Houston.

I love performing most genres of music. Most of my background is the 80s and 90s pop/rock/alternative rock but the Redwood Groove songbook has also brought many childhood memories back to me. Listening to many of these songs as my dad would be riding in his truck or working in his garage such as Linda Ronstadt. Some of my favorite songs are Barracuda, Little White Church, When Will I Be Loved, and Sober. I love all of them!

I was born and raised in San Jose. I spent many camping trips with my parents in the Santa Cruz mountains and my connection here is Redwood Groove! I think my future with Redwood Groove for 2024 looks like it's going to be a blast! I hope to see us play Capitola Twilight Series, Midtown, and Crow's Nest on Thursdays, those are always fun crowds. Friday was my first time at the Brookdale and it was a blast, I hope we play there again!
