Directors,
We look forward to your participation in the 2024 Red Rocks Utah State Marching Band Championships! This year we are excited to once again host Red Rocks at Utah Tech University in the Greater Zion Stadium!
Please read the following information thoroughly and if you have any questions, please reach out to John Miller, the UMEA Competition Coordinator.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Band Check-In and student drop-off is located on the west side of 1000 East at 300 South. You must arrive from the north (from St. George Blvd) to avoid crossing traffic.
Upon your arrival, proceed to Band Check-In and you will receive an updated information packet containing performance times (in case of any changes). Band members will receive a hand stamp at this time.
Limited parking is available for buses and truck/trailers. As a result, each band will be assigned specific arrival and departure times in the logistics schedule. Please review your schedule closely to make sure you arrive and depart on time.
Due to limited space, all busses will need to park off campus.
Trucks and trailers will be parked in the lot just east of the stadium and can enter the parking area from the east on 400 South. Parking staff will direct all trucks and trailers to an assigned parking area. Parking in this area is limited to equipment trucks/trailers, support vehicles must park off campus.
Portable restrooms are available near band check-in, warm-up, and the picnic area.
First Responders with First Aid kits are available by the entrance to the performance field. Contact any staff member with a radio for assistance.
Musical Warm-up and Color Guard Equipment Warm-up are only allowed in the official warm-up areas during your assigned warm-up times.
There will be a full retreat for each award ceremony. Bands should line up in uniform, by performance order, 4 wide. Directors should help organize their bands and then break off as they enter the field. There is not enough time for drum majors to do a salute circle during the award ceremony. Please exit the field immediately when released.
There are limited seats available in the west stands, particularly in the afternoon and evening. Since last year, the University has added seats in all areas that have previously only had cement bench seating. While this adds to the comfort of those in the stands, even fewer spectators will be able to squeeze into the stands. In order to manage the limited seating, ONLY SPECTATORS WITH A WRIST BAND WILL BE ADMITTED TO THE WEST STANDS. All students and staff watching other performances must enter the stadium at the east entrance and watch from the stands on the east side.
ADMINISTRATION: UHSAA passes can be used to obtain tickets at the box office.
Staff, boosters, pit helpers, etc. must be properly credentialed with a UMEA Field pass to get onto the field and into the stands.
Vendor booths and concessions are available on the south end of the west stands.
Performing Bands will be directed to enter the stadium as shown on the Stadium Map.
After the previous band's performance has ended, bands may stage, as directed, behind the goal line. This includes staging in the end zone.
At the conclusion of the band's performance, please use a Bass Drum tap only, and cease when the band is off the field.
No Gas, Diesel or Electric powered vehicles will be allowed in the stadium.
Drones are not allowed.
Please check the UMEA policy manual for full policies and procedures of Utah competitions @ https://www.umea.us/marching-band
Professional photography will be available at the venue and provided by Jolesch Photography.
There is a designated Director/Staff viewing area at the top of the stands at the 50 yard line.
There are 3 separate awards/retreat ceremonies. Please check the schedule for your assigned time. Refer to upcoming retreat instructions for details.
