Events

Trash in our communities has become so common that sometimes we don’t even notice the broken bottles, paper plates, and plastic bags laying around. It’s not exactly ignorance but a sense of normalcy. One thing we learned through our trash pickup event is that you never notice problems around you, unless you really look for it, which is a theme we brought into our organization. We noticed that the amount of trash in our neighborhood, got so excessive that we decided we had to do something about it. For our first event, we decided to pick up trash in our community. It was a 4 hour event with two groups. We had a lot of fun at the event while also working to make the environment cleaner. A lot of people asked how they could help out, and someone even donated to our cause! This act of kindness helped kickstart Redmond VolunTEENs!

The COVID-19 pandemic changed a lot of things around the world and it impacted Redmond in a big way as Washington was the first state to get a case of the virus. Covid-19 caused many people to not be in touch with their family, especially elderly people in retirement homes and first responders. We wanted to bring some love into their life for Valentine’s Day so we collaborated with: Fairiwinds Retirement home, Overlake Terrace Retirement Home, and Seattle Children’s Hospitals for this event. We asked people in our community to write “Virtual Valentines” which we then compiled and sent out! We collected 32 cards in total and this event was a success! We later were informed that these letters brightened up the receivers days, and that was amazing to hear!
