"REDBY COMMUNITY CENTRE – LOOK AT THE PROGRESS!

There has been a huge amount happening at Redby Community Centre over the past 3 years – and we wanted to share just some of the progress we’ve made.

Thanks to funding secured for the centre, we have been able to invest significantly in the future of our building:

Around £300,000 secured and spent on major works including new roofs, insulation, wall ties and replacement windows in parts of the hall.

£20,000 secured towards the much-needed rewiring of the centre’s electrics.

£5,000 secured for new water heaters to help bring the building up to current compliance requirements.

And that’s by no means an exhaustive list!

As many people will know, Redby Community Centre is an ageing building with a number of significant issues. Unfortunately, we can’t simply flip a switch and reopen every part of the building in the way we would like. There are health and safety requirements, legislation and compliance standards that we have to meet – and getting the building where it needs to be takes both time and considerable investment.

But we are getting there.

Alongside all of this work, we’ve continued to secure funding for activities at the centre, including programmes that have now been running successfully for years, such as our Craft Club, Keep Fit sessions and much more.

And very soon, we’ll be releasing our new timetable of activities and delivery at Redby Community Centre!

Our vision from the beginning has been clear: we want to transform Redby from what had largely become a building available for room hire – with limited income to maintain an ageing property – back into a traditional, thriving community centre at the heart of the area.

Redby Community Centre is a registered charity, and moving forward the vast majority of the programmes running from the centre will be delivered or supported directly through the charity for the benefit of our community.

We are, however, also keen to hear from constituted local community groups who may be interested in delivering activities from Redby where we have suitable space within our new timetable.

There is still plenty of work ahead of us, but when we look back at where the building was and how far we have already come, there is a lot to be proud of.

This is just the beginning for the next chapter of Redby Community Centre.
