Welcome to the Red Clover Book Award website maintained by the Red Clover Book Award Committee. Here you'll find this year's nominees with links to book details, teaching resources, and related STEAM activities.
The Red Clover Book Award is designed for children in kindergarten through fourth grade. Each year thousands of Vermont school children read the 10 nominated picture books and vote for their favorite in the spring. The award has been handed out annually since 1997.
The 2024-2025 Red Clover Book Award Winner is Who's Afraid of the Light, written and illustrated by Anna McGregor.
This site and the content on it was created and curated by the Red Clover committee . If you have additional Red Clover content for the current voting year that you would like to share with other Vermont librarians, please send it out on the VSLA listserv or LibYouth Services listservs and we will ensure it is shared on this site as well.
If you enjoy reading and evaluating picture books, this is the perfect committee to join! As a Red Clover committee member you will read hundreds of picture books and help to build a list of 10 nominated titles. Please spread the word to your picture-book-invested friends (maybe art or classroom teachers, homeschool parents...) who might also have interest in the program, as we are always looking to diversify perspectives on our committee!
Please send your resume, a letter of interest, and two examples of picture book reviews, one negative and one positive, to klucia@cvsdvt.org.
We will accept applications through Friday, May 1st, and inform our new committee member of their appointment in mid-late June. The first commitment as a new member will be a committee meeting in July.
