Help ask the Town to reconsider the scale and approval of the Ballantrae Multi-Sport Complex

We support appropriate recreational opportunities for Stouffville.

Our concern is whether an approximately 45-metre / 148-foot-high privately operated facility with roughly 453 parking spaces is appropriate for this location beside Ballantrae Public School and established homes.

We are asking the Town to complete the outstanding technical reviews, demonstrate conformity with the Ballantrae-Musselman’s Lake Secondary Plan, consult meaningfully with residents, and reconsider whether a substantially smaller, community-focused facility would better serve Ballantrae.

Note:   The September 2026 Technical Mitigation Plan specifies a maximum height of 45 metres. An earlier announcement by the project's architect, ZAS Architects, identified the height as 47 metres (154 feet). Clarification is being sought regarding the discrepancy and the maximum height shown on the current building-permit drawings.

WHAT DOES THE PETITION ASK FOR?

We respectfully ask the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville to:

1. Complete the outstanding review before full construction and operation

Ensure the outstanding technical, environmental and safety reviews are completed before the project proceeds to full construction and operation.

2. Demonstrate conformity with the Secondary Plan

Clearly explain how the proposal complies with the applicable Ballantrae-Musselman’s Lake Secondary Plan policies, including rural character, village scale, compatibility, servicing and environmental protection.

3. Protect neighbouring properties and the school community

Demonstrate that traffic, stormwater, groundwater, flooding, noise, lighting and other impacts can be adequately managed.

4. Provide meaningful public consultation

Give residents an opportunity to review the completed technical information and ask questions before full construction proceeds.

5. Reassess the scale and location

Determine whether a 45-metre / 148-foot-high with approximately 453 parking spaces is truly necessary and appropriate at this location.

6. Consider a smaller, community-focused alternative

Provide recreational opportunities at a scale that meets community needs while minimizing negative impacts on Ballantrae.
