As myself and several of my fellow Oregon road scholars start branching out across the state from the original Columbia River Highway, I know that more work will be done on US 26. In fact, some already has and I'll be posting some photos from this old highway from a field trip out to Madras and The Dalles-California Highway last week.
From what I understand from Kirk J. Poole, who knows the history of the roads out this direction better, much of the highway past ORE 216 was built in the Post-WW2 era, with the original road following the Wapinitia Highway to an intersection with, what is now, US 197 just north of Maupin.
