FAQS

Inspire Recital FAQs 2024

Costumes:

What if my child has back to back dances during the tech/photo rehearsal or in the show order?

During tech week, we can easily accommodate back to back classes! Your dancer will just need to change quickly.

We have a quick change room right off the stage for all performers that have 3 or less numbers between dances.

Do I wear my costume to Photo/Tech Rehearsal and Dress Rehearsal?

YES! YES! YES! Remember we will be at the Marjorie Luke Theatre. We suggest full hair and make-up for dress rehearsal/tech, as this is also your dancer's portrait day.

Where can I find out about his/her hair, make-up, and costume needs?

See the tab on the recital site for your class hair and makeup details.

We suggest all dancers wear basic stage makeup because of the washed out effect that the powerful lights have on young faces. Basic stage makeup: Blush, lipstick, eye makeup, mascara (older dancers should wear eye liner)

OPTIONAL: false lashes really open up the eyes.

NOTE: We suggest dancers do not share makeup/hair brushes backstage.  NO GLITTER!!!

If you are concerned about your young dancer wearing makeup, know that makeup allows them to look natural under the powerful stage lights. We always emphasize the difference between stage make up and street makeup. While this is a requirement for older dancers, we respect the wishes of parents who feel strongly about makeup for their young dancer and want you to have a positive experience at recital.

ABSOLUTELY NO JEWELRY ALLOWED ON STAGE. Please leave jewelry at home!

Tickets:

Why do I need to buy tickets?

Although our performance is at a school, it is a professional theater and charges rental of the theater, dressing rooms, and theater staff and technicians. We also hire extra staff to keep the children safe and run the show. The ticket sales are necessary to cover these costs and provide your dancer with a safe and professional show.

We promise to provide you and your family a quality and entertaining experience. Your dancer will come away from the stage with great pride and a sense of accomplishment. Let’s support them on their big day!

We have ticket assistance or you can volunteer to get a Dance Arts Credit if you need financial assistance (see below).

Why is my dancer in more than one show?

We are proud to have over 300 young performers participating in three unique shows over the Inspire weekend. If your dancer is in more than one class, there is a small chance they could be in more than one show.  We have multi-show discounts and always have ticket assistance or ways to volunteer and get a Dance Arts Credit to help with the expense. Please reach out if you would like to request financial assistance or volunteer for credit. See ticketing page for financial assistance request.

Where can I buy tickets?

Tickets are on sale via Dance Recital Ticketing: They will not be available until April 1, 2024 at NOON. So mark your calendars!

The Marjorie Luke Theatre has assigned seating, so be sure to buy early to ensure you get the perfect seat to watch your dancer’s big moment.

Ticket prices are higher the day of the show but will be available to purchase right up to the day before the show. You can purchase with Venmo or cash onsite.

Should I buy my dancer a ticket?

Dancers in the show will be backstage the entire time and take a final bow at the end of the show. We have partnered with the Learningden Preschool to provide professional supervision and activities for your child backstage.

REMINDER! All Youth and Junior performers can get a $5 ticket (upon request) to see our Senior Show on Thursday May 16th at 6:30pm. Watch our advanced dancers take the stage and show your dancer where their hard work and dedication can take them! Request your dancer's $5 ticket code from Jerelyn via email: jerelyn@sbdancearts.com

Can I get a VIP seat?

Yes, if you purchase a $65 VIP ticket. This price includes premium seating, a keepsake program, and a good luck message for your dancer(s)!

Is there financial assistance available for tickets?

Yes, there is limited need-based assistance. Please fill out the Ticket Assistance Request Form, linked on the ticket page, by Friday, May 2nd at 12pm or email maria@sbdancearts.com with any questions.

Will all the shows be different?

All of the shows are completely unique, fully produced, and professionally presented. Whether you are 3 or 17, you will get the same experience!

Is your dancer inspired? We suggest coming to our Senior Show, Thursday May 16th at 6:30pm, which showcases our most advanced dancers. Your dancer’s ticket is only $5! Many families make it a tradition before their child’s big day! Or consider dropping your dancer off for Mr. Nathan’s Night Out so they can enjoy the show with friends and one of our most beloved teachers. See May newsletter for sign up! Youth and Junior performers can acquire their $5 Senior Show ticket by request from jerelyn@sbdancearts.com

Each year we receive rave reviews by parents, dancer’s families, friends of dancers and community members regarding the caliber and quality of the performance. If your dancer is considering auditioning for our Company or joining Crew,  we strongly recommend attending the Senior performance!

Note: An adult MUST drop off your student in person, attend the 11am safety meeting, and name who will pick up their dancer at the end of the show. Dancers should arrive in full hair and make-up.

We are proudly partnering with the 20 members of the Learning Den School to keep your child safe and entertained backstage until the show is over.

Junior, and Senior Shows: Will there be time for my dancer to leave between dress rehearsal and the show?

For security reasons, we are keeping dancers backstage during the show and will be bringing food to the cafeteria for purchase. You may choose to send cash with them.

How long is the show?

The times below are approximate.

Senior Show –  2 hours

Junior Show-  1.5 hours

Youth Show – 1.25 hours

Is there supervision all day?

Yes, the Youth and Junior Shows will have closed dressing rooms, and dancers will not be permitted to walk around without an adult or leader. We will bring food to the dressing room and go to the bathroom in groups to avoid dancers loitering around campus.

The Youth Show has additional staff support including members from the Learning Den Preschool. They will be backstage with our youngest dancers to keep them entertained on and off the stage.

Junior and Senior dancers can check themselves in and out at the end of the show. If you want to require an adult for checkout, please notify their designated leader at drop off.

All dancers being picked up (all youth and any other parental requests) must have an adult check them out at the Muli-purpose room backstage. We must allow ALL performers to enter the Multi-purpose room after final bow before we start checking out children. This can take several minutes after the show ends. Please be patient!

Will you have food there?

Yes. We will have baked goods and water for sale; $5-$10 should be plenty. All proceeds benefit the Move With Purpose. The dancers in the Youth and Senior show will not be able to purchase this backstage, so please send them with food. We will bring a small order of pizza for purchase (cash only) backstage to the Junior show, but we still suggest packing snacks and food.

Dancers should never eat in their costume! And of course we recommend you pack non-messy snacks and lots of water!

Dancer’s check-list: What to bring on the day of the show?

Required make up, hair accessories, and costume extras - please see costume section of May newsletter and recital site.

A pair of flip-flops to wear from dressing room to backstage.

An outfit to wear backstage when not in costume - this needs to go over their head easily without disturbing hair/makeup. Zip-up suggested.

Cash for food - pizza, snacks, water available all day for purchase, or non-messy snacks.

Books, games, homework, ipads etc. for backstage down-time.

A cover-up to wear over costume.

LABEL EVERYTHING!
