Over the Fence
I recently moved into my residence in district 12, in 2018, from Milwaukee County. In the spring of 2019, I contacted the City of Waukesha City Hall and sought approval to build a fence around my back yard for my dogs.
Upon speaking with multiple people at City Hall, I was told there were no restrictions on my desire to build a backyard fence. The fence was purchased and installed at the cost of $10,000. As the fence was completed, a neighbor complained about the fence, and an inspector from City Hall contacted me and told me I was not allowed to have the fence because there was a zoning issue with it. I told the inspector that there were two other neighbors on the same side with fences.
The inspector told me to speak with my alderman, but I’d have to remove it. I called my Alderman, Aaron Perry, for help, and he said he had spoken with the neighbor who complained about the fence already. He said he could meet with me, but when I tried to set up the meeting, Alderman Aaron Perry never called back and never helped resolve my situation.
Subsequently, I had to remove portions of the fence but never heard from Alderman Aaron Perry.
This situation left me believing he’s a lousy Alderman and not living up to what he says he will do. This interaction was unsatisfactory and does not deserve to be my alderman.
An Open Threat
Alderman Aaron Perry called me at 9:41 pm until 10:04 PM on 12-1-20. This was during the final vote of the evening on an important city financial decision for the common council after a closed session meeting. Aaron was not present via zoom for that vote because he called me instead.
His reasoning for the call was that he was returning my call. I was first confused by the statement as to what call he was referencing. He had odd long pauses all through the call making the conversation very awkward to follow. The call he was referencing was from 11-25-20 where I left a voicemail message urging him to do the right thing for himself, his family, and the residents by stepping down as our alderman. We spoke about mainly about causes to why he is in the media so much lately and what he can do to remedy that.
During the call he sounded and acted heavily impaired (intoxicated/medicated). I asked if he consumed and alcohol that day and he said no that he hasn't had any since March. Then I asked about a city council meeting from 5-19-20 where he was heavily impaired to which he replied it was a medication issue.
He told me that his public defender that "he is not fucking paying for" told him the statements by police that he to.Id them he couldn't and shouldn't be arrested are just over reach and everything will be dropped and that he never laid a hand on his ex. He spent a lot of time explaining he has the means for two apartments and that he was at the 1408 Rockridge location during our call. He claims that he spends far less than 50% of his nights there. He offered me the opportunity to go to his River Place address listed on the city website (parent's apartment) to verify he lives there. I asked how would I do that if he was not there? He said I could see he had a bedroom, mail and underwear at that location .
I asked him to do the right thing and step down to allow himself, his family and residents of district 12 the chance to heal and be represented by someone who actually live here in the district.
He told me I am part of the recall because of his ex wife. I told him he can't decide for me why I'm doing it but that's not it. He then told me it's because of his arrest in the paper and again I said he can't decide for me why I'm doing it. Then he said very angrily "you put that fucking address in the paper". I asked what address he was talking about and his reply was referencing the email for his recall that is 1408rockridge@gmail.com. I said now your getting somewhere. He expressed that it's a waste of time and that he will win. I said that's his right to try.
I then let him know that even if I stepped down from the recall effort that I'm not the leader of it and that it would continue without me, I am just one person involved of many.
At that point he said "I'm going to fucking bury you!!" My reply was well that's strong and that we were done for the evening and ended the call.
