AI Training Initiative for teachers and education stakeholders at Lycée Liziba, Kinshasa
In December 2023, I initiated the development of an in-person AI-focused training program aimed at equipping educators with foundational knowledge of AI and its responsible application in education. This initiative culminated in a successful training session at Lycée Liziba, an avant-garde school in Kinshasa dedicated to fostering 21st-century competencies among its learners.
Originally conceived as a collaborative effort with two other AI enthusiasts, the project evolved into a strategic opportunity to amplify CET’s mission—empowering local communities with AI knowledge and resources. The session was designed to provide educators with practical insights into AI’s role in enhancing teaching and learning outcomes.
The training took place on March 15, 2024, featuring two expert speakers: a data scientist and a professor with extensive experience in data science and education. The event was structured into interactive sessions, allowing over 30 teachers and educational stakeholders from 4 different schools to engage deeply with the material.
A key component of the training was a hands-on workshop where participants worked in teams to develop AI-integrated lesson plans using ChatGPT. These lesson plans were evaluated based on relevance, effectiveness, creativity, innovation, and contextual adaptability. The winning team received certificates of excellence and a $10 airtime prize per member, generously sponsored by a local partner. All participants were awarded certificates of participation in recognition of their commitment to professional development.
This initiative reinforced the immense potential of AI in education and highlighted the enthusiasm of local educators to embrace emerging technologies. The success of this session further motivates my continued efforts in advancing AI literacy and fostering impactful learning experiences.
