The Pyramids of Giza (Figure 1) represent one of the most significant feats of engineering in human history. Constructed during the 3rd millennium BCE, these structures reflect a level of massive labor mobilization and resource management that remains a historic achievement to this day (Lehner, 1997). However, because of the scale of construction, especially with how vast and ambitious the project was for its time, many struggled to wrap their heads around just how an ancient civilization could achieve such a massive task without the modern technology and construction equipment we rely on today (Müller-Römer, 2015).
A lack of comprehensive understanding of the archaeological record has led to the rise of pseudoarchaeological theories, most notably what I will refer to as the "Ancient Aliens Hypothesis" (Figure 2), which claims that extraterrestrial or otherwise supernatural intervention was either partially or fully responsible for the construction of the Pyramids of Giza. These claims, however, often stem from a failure to acknowledge the sophistication of ancient human technology and the actual evidence found within the Egyptian landscapes (Lightbody and Monnier, 2017).
This site will investigate the archeological evidence of the Giza constructions (Figure 3) to refute claims of extraterrestrial assistance. By examining environmental logistics such as the "Khufu Channel" water transport system (Sheisha et al., 2022), as well as primary sources like the Diary of Merer (Tallet, 2017), I seek to show that the pyramids were not the product of supernatural intervention, but the product of a sophisticated human workforce with mastery over their environment. I believe that by looking at the engineering and environmental contexts of the Old Kingdom (Roig, 2026), we can protect the legacy of human ingenuity.
In the next section, I will provide some background information on the history of ancient Egypt so we can better understand the context of the times.
