All you need to know about BITS!

What are BITS?

BITS = Behaviour, Impact, Thought, Support. BITS are exclusive to the Real Humans team and can only be used within our community. 🤝

How to Score BITS

There are 4 main ways to earn BITS:

1. Invite New Members 👥

Earn 5 BITS per new member invited! If they leave, the corresponding BITS are removed. 💬

Bonus BITS for inviting higher-rated or top leaderboard players: 📈

• 2500+ (or Top 6000): +10 BITS 💰

• 2750+ (or Top 1500): +25 BITS 💰

• 3000+ (or Top 200): +50 BITS 💰

• 3100+ (or Top 50): +100 BITS 💰

• Top 20: To Be Unlocked 👀

• GM / WGM: +500 BITS 🤝

• IM / WIM: +300 BITS 🤝

2. Play in Arenas 🏁

A) Team Battles 🤼

To reward team effort and individual performance, Real Humans introduces a BITS-based prize structure that multiplies your tournament earnings based on team success.

(i) - BITS Earning System (Per Point Scored) 💰

Rough Approximation:

1+0 - 5 BITS/point 💰

3+0 - 15 BITS/point 💰

8+0 - 30 BITS/point 💰

25+0 - 60 BITS/point 💰

(ii) - For some important tournaments, there will be bonus BITS 🎉

(iii) - Team Multipliers 🤝

Your total BITS earned from the tournament are multiplied based on your team's final placement:

• 1st Place: ×5 multiplier 🏆

• 2nd Place: ×3 multiplier 🏅

• 3rd Place: ×2 multiplier 🥉

Example

A player scores 20 points in a Rated Bullet team battle: 20 × 5 BITS = 100 BITS

If the team finishes 1st place: 100 × 5 = 500 BITS total earned 💰

(iv) Solo Multipliers 💪

Your total BITS earned from the tournament are multiplied based on your individual arena points (highest tier achieved counts — stacks on top of team placement bonuses!):

• Tier 1: 75 pts (¼+0) / 60 pts (1+0) / 45 pts (3+0) / 30 pts (8+0) → ×2 multiplier🔥

• Tier 2: 150 pts (¼+0) / 120 pts (1+0) / 90 pts (3+0) / 60 pts (8+0) → ×4 multiplier ⚡

• Tier 3: 225 pts (¼+0) / 180 pts (1+0) / 135 pts (3+0) / 90 pts (8+0) → ×6 multiplier 🏆

• Tier 4: 300 pts (¼+0) / 240 pts (1+0) / 180 pts (3+0) / 120 pts (8+0) → ×8 multiplier 👑

• Tier 5: 375 pts (¼+0) / 300 pts (1+0) / 225 pts (3+0) / 150 pts (8+0) → ×10 multiplier 🪽

Tier 1 for different time controls: (multiply accordingly)

3+2: 40 -- 5+0: 35 -- 7+2: 28 -- 10+0: 25 -- 7+5: 21 -- 15+10: 7

Example

A lone warrior scores 35 points in a Rated 8+0 team battle (hits Tier 1):

   35 × 30 BITS/pt = 1,050 BITS (base)

   1,050 × 2 = 2,100 BITS (solo multiplier)

Imagine if we got to 2nd place as well:

   2,100 × 3 = 6,300 BITS total earned 💰

P.S. For time controls outside of the listed ones, simply take their BITS/point and plug it as x into the formula below to get the points needed for a Tier 1 x2 multiplier!

(v) Streak Multipliers 🔥

We are now rewarding consistent Team Top 10 finishes in the big team battles with increasing BITS multipliers.

Important Rules:

• Streaks are category-specific. You cannot mix LMAO and GP battles.

• 3 LMAO Day finishes in a row = LMAO Day streak.

• 1 LMAO Day + 1 GP Day + 1 LMAO Day = no streak.

• If we miss a battle or don’t get Top 10, the streak resets to 0.

• Only one multiplier applies per battle (the highest one we qualify for).

1. LMAO Day & GP Day Streaks

Formula: 0.5 × Streak + 0.5 multiplier Starts at: 3rd in a row Capped at: 5× multiplier

2. LMAO Night & GP Night Streaks

Formula: 0.5 × Streak multiplier Starts at: 3rd in a row Capped at: 5× multiplier

3. LMAO Non-Stop & GP Non-Stop Streaks

(Doing both Day and Night battles consecutively without missing)

Formula: (Streak - 1) multiplier Starts at: 3rd in a row Capped at: 10× multiplier

4. rapid 8+0 Streaks

Formula: 0.5 × Streak + 0.5 multiplier Starts at: 3rd in a row Capped at: 5× multiplier

How It Works in Practice

• You hit Top 10 in LMAO Day three times in a row → your 3rd battle gets 2.0× BITS.

• You then hit Top 10 in the next LMAO Day → your 4th battle gets 2.5× BITS.

• You miss one LMAO Day → streak resets. Next Top 10 starts from x=1 again.

Non-Stop example: If you get Top 10 in LMAO Day → LMAO Night → LMAO Day → LMAO Night (4 battles), your 4th battle gets 3× from the Non-Stop category.

(vi) Team Battle Contribution Tiers – “Leaders vs Bench” 🏆

Most team battles on Lichess use 20 leaders (only the top 20 individual scores count toward the team total). Some special events use 5 leaders, 10 leaders, or other formats.

To fairly reward actual impact while still encouraging everyone to play hard, we use tiered BITS multipliers based on your personal ranking within the team. Here is an example of a team battle with 10 Leaders:

(vii) BOTS earn 2x BITS as Lichess made it harder for them to earn BITS by devaluing draws.

B) In-Team Arenas 🤝

• 1 BIT for every arena point you earn in a Rated Arena 🤝

• There may well be extra prizes, so check the arena for more info! 🎉

• Manipulation with alternate accounts is strictly forbidden and will result in heavy penalty! 

3. Earn Achievements 🤝‍🤝

Claim Achievements by messaging the Patriarch 💪

The final Achievement - Warrior of the Ages - requires 10,000 Team Battles played - for a whopping reward of 100,000,000 BITS! 💰

4. Leadership Salary ✨

(Effective for payouts starting February 2026, based on January 2026 activity)

Eligibility ✅

Only members holding one of the top leadership ranks at the final moment of the calendar month qualify. The salary is determined solely by the specific rank held at month-end.

No pro-rata or retrospective adjustments apply. 🔒

• 🗡️Seventh Leader: 500 BITS

• 🗡️Eighth Leader: 300 BITS

Payments are credited to the member's BITS balance at the beginning of the following month. 💸🌙

Activity Requirement 🏆⚔️

To qualify, the member must participate in at least five Real Humans team tournaments during the calendar month.

Participation means joining and playing at least one game in an official team battle or arena tournament created for or entered under the Real Humans team on Lichess. 🏁

Personal tournaments and events from other teams do not count.

This policy ensures leadership salaries reward active contribution to the team's success.

There are two separate yet together systems: the Traditional and the Hierarchical.

Traditional System ⚖️

 As you earn more BITS, you unlock powerful leader roles — each with new abilities to shape the team. Higher roles inherit all powers from lower ones! 💪

1. Organiser — 50 BITS 🎮
   Create and manage tournaments and events.

2. Herald — 150 BITS 📣
   Send team-wide messages and announcements.

3. Sentinel — 600 BITS 🛡️
   Moderate team forums and chats to keep things civil.

4. Enforcer — 3000 BITS ⚔️
   Kick members if needed to protect the team.

5. Sovereign — 18,000 BITS 👁️
   Visible as a team leader — a symbol of earned respect.

6. Configurator — 125,000 BITS 🏗️
   Edit team description, info, and settings.

7. Administrator — 1,000,000 BITS 💻
   Full control over all mortal roles and permissions.

Hierarchical System 🏯

As you earn more BITS and progress, you also ascend through our timeless ranks, reflecting your dedication and place in the community.⌛

1. Aspirant 🕯️
   New souls who aspire to become full members of the Real Humans family. These are the ones just starting their journey, without an official rank yet, full of potential and eagerness to prove themselves.

2. Outer Member 🏞️
   The quiet contributors on the periphery who don’t yet receive much spotlight or attention. They hold the entry rank of Organiser and are building their presence steadily.

3. Inner Member 🌀
   Dedicated players who have begun to stand out and may attract the personal attention and guidance of a Manager. They hold the rank of Herald and are deepening their involvement.

4. Core Member 🔮
   Trusted individuals at the heart of the team who can learn directly under a Leader, absorbing knowledge and strategy. They hold the rank of Sentinel and form the reliable backbone.

5. Steward 🏮
   Responsible guardians who make sure the Team runs smoothly day to day, handling operations with care and precision. They hold the rank of Enforcer and keep order with quiet strength.

6. Manager ⚒️
   The elite Managers who faithfully implement the visions and ideas of the Leaders, bridging strategy with execution across the entire community.

7. Leader 🗡️
   The Nine Leaders guiding forces who organise the lower ranks, inspire the team, and lead us forward in battles and growth with wisdom and authority.

8. Elder 📿
   Venerable Elders are veteran Leaders who wield far greater strength and influence than standard Leaders. They offer unparalleled counsel and strategic perspective honed through years of dedicated service.

9. Patriarch 🏛️
   The supreme Patriarch emerges through fierce competition and is fought for among the Elders. This figurehead commands the entire hierarchy with visionary direction and ensures the team's enduring continuity and growth.

10. Ancestor 🌟
    Legendary former Patriarchs who have pioneered the team in its earliest days, leaving an eternal legacy that inspires all Real Humans to this day.

Leadership & the 10-Leader Limit

Lichess limits teams to just 10 official Leaders, but Real Humans has hundreds of ambitious members earning BITS and levelling up fast! 📈

To make leadership fair and inclusive, we’ve created a Hybrid Leadership System:

• Core Leaders: The top 9 BITS holders are granted real Lichess Leader powers — they can directly manage the team. 🏆

• Virtual Leaders: Everyone else who qualifies for a leadership rank becomes a Virtual Leader. They earn the title and privileges, but not the technical permissions due to Lichess limits. 💻

Virtual Leaders can simply message the Founder if they need to take action (like moderating chat or editing the team page). If it’s within their rank’s powers, the Founder will execute it on their behalf.

This ensures every active member’s effort is rewarded, even if the system has technical limits! 📱
