My name is Joelle Gaspard and I am a blessed wife, mother of two, and teacher with over 10 years experience in education. I have my Bachelors in Literacy and Writing from CSU San Marcos and have always loved literature. I have worked in Special Education with RUSD for two years and as an educator throughout the district for three. I taught Literature, Science, and Spanish at a home school co-op in the Inland Empire. Additionally, I have experience teaching children with Autism using applied behavior analysis, as well as serving as a corporate trainer in the finance world.
My passion for literacy started when I was teaching a Literature class and discovered that many of my students were Dyslexic and had great difficulties in reading. What struck me about these students is how creative, bright, and intuitive they were. Their ideas were refreshing and their insights extraordinary. I knew that simply creating accomodations for them wasn't enough. I wanted to teach these students the skills needed to read, thrive, and love literature.
I dove deeply into the science of reading, devouring every book and article I could find and listening to every literacy podcast. The more I learned about the science behind teaching reading, the more I knew that my passion must become my profession. I became certified in Literacy from the Cox Institute, am Orton-Gillingham trained, trained in Barton Reading and Spelling, and am currently pursuing national certification through the Dyslexia Training Institute. My goal is to take the mystery out of reading through proven, science backed principles. I look forward to working with your family!
