Reading fluency is reading aloud with a comfortable speed, with few, if any mistakes, and with expression, much like when you are speaking. (Kloss, 2019) Fluency is made up of 3 components: accuracy which has to do with how many errors you make, the rate which is the speed at which you read, and reading with expression or prosody is reading as you speak. When we read fluently, it is easier to understand what we read which is why it is an important component of reading well. It is hard to listen in our heads to the words and think about what they mean when we are stumbling over them.
