While I’m still taking this class right now in my last semester, this class is no doubt the most fun class. Also due to the professors and students, who all engage and participate a lot. More importantly, we learn about how religious content has changed in the media over the years, as well as big media stories that surround religion-based narratives. We saw many trends, such as #MeToo, that then turned into religious hashtags and trends as well. Furthermore, being in Qatar, we focus on Islamophobia and Xenophobia, and how this impacts Islamic states as well as people who follow Islam. It is extremely interesting to see how the media perpetuates hate towards these religions, especially towards Islam, and especially towards the West. People can not peacefully live and even work. For example, we were shown an ad in class where two white Americans refused to sit in a car with a Muslim Uber driver, because he was Muslim, and then booked another ride. Thus, the one theme I have taken away from this class is that people who are unaware of a religion and its ideals are the ones that have the most hate, as their judgment is based on the media and very West-originated stereotypes of the Middle East and Islam.
