Introduction of the event

As a natural calamity earthquake can occur at any moment of time and at anywhere on the earth’s surface. It is an abrupt violent shaking of the earth that can be very damaging, collapsing buildings and abolishing entire geographical areas. Earthquakes are such significant natural phenomena that they can claim a large number of lives in a solo event. Earthquake, unlike other natural disasters such as floods and drought, are a sudden activity that does not give us time to prepare. Today we will discuss about fundamental phenomenon behind earthquake. I am here to enrich you with the causes, effects and facts about one of the most catastrophic calamities called earthquakes. Earthquakes happen unexpectedly and quite often in certain areas, like north eastern India. So, stay safe and follow the instruction "Drop, Cover and Hold".?


Objectives

The main aim of our current webinar was to familiarize and make people conscious about catastrophic calamities called earthquakes.


Description of the event

The talk began in the online presence of the Hon’ble Principal Dr. Ranjan Kalita and Vice Principal Dr. Ranendra Mohan Deka. The head of the department of Physics, Dr. Rakesh Moulick explained the purpose of the meeting. The welcome speech was given by Dr. Ranjan Kalita, Principal, Rangapara College. Dr. Luxmi Machahari, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, introduced the speaker. The platform was then handed over to the speaker for his lecture. The overall summary of the event was given by Dr. Ranendra Mohan Deka, Vice Principal, Rangapara College . The session has been found to be highly interactive. The event was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Bijoy Sankar Boruah, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics.
