Army— Mostly land-based military training. Armies typically defend and secure a state or land-based mission.
Marines— Amphibious military training; a combination of land-based and a little sea-based training. As the infantry arm of the Navy, Marines typically start battles, using naval assets to attack from the sea, land on the coast, and work inwards to land until the Army arrives to secure the area and complete the fight.
Navy—Sea-based military training. Navies usually spend a long time at sea on ships and submarines to defend trading vessels and a nation’s territorial waters and interests at sea.
Air Force—Training based on aircraft, flight, navigation and fixing/maintaining aircraft. Air Forces are concerned with projecting military power from the skies and guard a nation’s airspace and communications network.
Coast Guard—coastal search and rescue, maritime law enforcement training. Coast Guards protect coastal waters and marine life, defend against poachers and smugglers, carry out law enforcement duties in coastal waters, rescue shipwrecks, clean oil spills, and carry out ice-breaking operations in regular duty. In wartime, they support the Navy.
Space Force—maintain and defend satellites and other space assets, maintain vigilance against missile threats, develop space warfare, explore space
Public Safety Corps—Both police and firefighter paramilitary training. Public Safety Corps carry out the functions of both police and fire departments, having all their officers cross-trained as police officers, paramedics, and firefighters. And in some cases, also as reserve support troops to give support to the Army reserves.
National Guard—Emergency response, advanced basic-intermediate combination of Army (land-based) and Air Force (flying aircraft, aerial combat, aircraft maintenance) military training. National Guards are reserve units that are mobilized to respond to national emergencies and to support the Army and/or Air Force as reserve units during wartime.
