In Stage Two of Basic Training, we will be learning about Training in ROTTWEILER, the Ranks of ROTTWEILER, Progression in Rank & Promotions, and finally, about the ROTTWEILER Medals and Awards.
After completing Stage Two, you may introduce/address yourself as NE.2 - i.e., New Entry stage 2.
Training in ROTTWEILER is the ultimate responsibility of the Training Officer (or Training NCO), who is the Department Head for the Training Department. The Training Department is one of the four Departments under the Logistics Branch of ROTTWEILER; these other Departments are the Administration, Communications & Entertainment (ACE) Department, Corps Maintenance Department, and Regulations Department.
The Training Department is made up of a number of Sub-Departments, each catering to a different type / category of training in ROTTWEILER:
Basic Training Sub-Department
Service Branch Training Sub-Department
Trades & Qualifications Sub-Department
The Non-Commissioned Officer's College Sub-Department
The Officers' Academy Sub-Department
Basic Training Sub-Department
The Basic Training Department is led by the Corps Drill Instructor, who is the Sub-Department Coordinator.
All members of ROTTWEILER must pass through Basic Training in order to become full members and participate in Corps activities.
The purpose of Basic Training is to:
Create a smooth transition route for New Entries, helping them to integrate successfully into the Corps.
Provide a thorough introduction to the Corps' procedures, purposes and traditions.
Within 24 hours of a NE submitting their application form, the Corps Drill Instructor should reach out by email to welcome the NE and guide them through training.
The Corps Drill Instructor is supported by Assistant Drill Instructors who automatically step in when the Corps Drill Instructor hasn't stepped in within 24 hours.
After an NE has successfully completed all three phases and quizzes in Basic Training, the Corps Drill Instructor will promote the NE to the rank grade of C-1 or E-1, i.e. JC (Junior Cadet), so that the JC may start their Element-specific/Service Branch-specific training to advance to C-2 grade.
Service Branch Training Sub-Department/Element Training Sub-Department
The Service Branch Training Sub-Department is led by the Service Branch Training Officer also called the Element Training Officer, (or the Service Branch Training NCO/Element Training NCO if no Officer is appointed in the role), which is the Sub-Department Coordinator.
All members of ROTTWEILER are required to complete the Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Specialist levels of training in their particular Service Branch to advance in rank.
The purpose of the Service Branch Training Sub-Department is to:
Provide a thorough, relevant and useful base of element-specific training to all members of the Corps.
Provide an introduction to ROTTWEILER and its procedures and traditions to Cadets.
There are two types of courses within the Service Branch Training Sub-Department that are unique to all Service Branches:
Element Cadet Courses
Specialist Cadet Courses
The Element Cadet Courses (or Service Branch-specific Cadet Courses) consist of three levels: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced, and each level contains four lessons; three of which cover training information relevant and specific to the Service Branch or Element, and one which is the same across all Elements and is directly relevant to the Corps overall.
The Specialist Cadet Courses consist of two levels: Phase 1 and Phase 2. Each contains four (4) lessons which are Element-specific and directly relate to the specialist topic.
Trades & Qualifications Sub-Department
The Trades & Qualifications Sub-Department is led by the Trades Officer (or Trades NCO), who is the Sub-Department Coordinator.
Trades and Qualifications are level-based subject-specific training.
Each Trade consists of five (5) levels; levels one to five, each with fifteen (15) questions.
Each Qualification consists of two (2) levels; Silver and Gold. Silver Qualifications are the initial level and have ten (10) questions. Gold Qualifications are the final level and have five (5) questions.
The pass mark for Trades are 73% - i.e., 11 out of 15 questions correct.
The pass mark for Silver Qualifications is 70% - i.e., 7 out of 10 questions correct.
The pass mark for Gold Qualifications is 80% - i.e., 4 out of 5 questions correct.
Members must hold the minimum rank grade of C-2 in order to attempt or submit Trades and Qualifications.
Members must wait until the Trades Officer/Trades NCO has marked their submitted Trade or Qualification and posted the grade before they submit another. If a Trade or Qualification is submitted before the prior one is marked, the newly submitted Trade or Qualification will be marked as a fail.
A member may have at maximum only three (3) Trades at Level Four or below at any one time. Before a fourth trade can be attempted, the member must complete one of the currently ongoing Trades to Level Five.
Non-Commissioned Officers' College Sub-Department
The Non-Commissioned Officers' College (NCOC) Sub-Department is led by the NCOC Senior Instructor, who is the Sub-Department Coordinator.
All NCOs, i.e. members ranking from grades C-5 to C-13 must have completed at least one NCOC course in order to be eligible to be appointed as an NCO, and must complete additional NCOC courses for promotion to higher NCO ranks. Members must hold at least the rank of C-4 to attempt any NCOC course.
The purpose of the NCOC is to:
Provide a thorough, relevant and useful base of training for Non-Commissioned Officers.
Prepare, develop and refine the core skills of all members of ROTTWEILER.
The pass mark for all courses in the NCOC is 70%.
The Officers' Academy Sub-Department
The Officers' Academy (OA) Sub-Department is led by the Officers' Academy Commanding Officer (OACO), who is the Sub-Department Coordinator.
The aims of the OA are to:
Provide a thorough, robust and varied training base for potential and current Officers.
Prepare and refine the core skills of all members of ROTTWEILER Corps.
Three streams of study are offered:
Certificate Courses
Commissioning Course
Return-Officer Entry Programme Courses
Ordinary Certificate courses may be taken by any member at rank C-2/E-2 and above with no recommendation needed. Special Certificate courses may be taken by any member at O-1 rank and above with recommendations from superior officers.
Commissioning Course may be taken by any member at C-8/E-8 rank and above who desires to be an Officer and has received the recommendation from their Divisional Officer or Head of Department and has passed the Officers Academy (OA) Entrance Exam.
The Return Officer Entry Programme Courses are for Officers at O-1 rank and above who wish to further their education and have received the recommendation from their Divisional Officer or Head of Department.
ROTTWEILER is a paramilitary organization, therefore ranks and hierarchy are essential to our operations and structure. The entire rank structure of ROTTWEILER is separated into three cadres/broad groupings:
Cadets
Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs)
Officers
Within each cadre/broad groupings of rank, there are different rank levels. For example the Officer (O) cadre consists of levels O-1 to O-8; the Cadet (C) cadre consists of levels C-0 to C-4; and the NCO (C) cadre consists of levels C-5 to C-13.
Note that the Non-Commissioned Cadre is also labelled/designated with a 'C' or 'E' just like the Cadets.
Note also the Officer Cadets (O-C1 to O-C4), which we will see later, are treated as part of the NCO cadre although they are not NCOs. As Officers-in-training, they have a unique position, being neither NCO nor Officer, but for the purpose of administration and logistics, are counted as among the NCOs.
Cadet Cadre
The Cadet Cadre is the starting level for membership in ROTTWEILER. The names of the ranks of Cadets within the C-0 to C-4 rank grades, which may also be designated as the E-0 to E-4 rank grades (E for Enlisted), differ depending on their Service Branch/(Element). Let us work through all the ranks from the bottom up - from the lowest to highest rank within this cadre:
