Bruce was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Sarasota, Florida. His college years were spent at Florida State University in Tallahassee, where he was an Education major, with a minor in Sports Coaching.
He first began playing amateur tournaments in his early 20s, in the greater Sarasota area. In his early 30s, Bruce moved to Northern Ontario, where he spent the next 20+ years playing in hundreds of amateur tournaments. In his amateur career, he won over 100 tournaments, from Florida to Canada.
In his professional career, Bruce placed on the money list in a number of tournaments, finishing in the top 3 to top 6 leaderboard spots. He has played professionally on the Florida Professional Golf Tour, the Sunbelt Senior Tour, a number of pro-ams in the U.S., and in other professional tournaments in the U.S. and in Europe.
As General Manager of two different golf courses in Northern Ontario, his keen business instincts turned those clubs around from near-insolvency into profitability.
As a golf instructor, he trained many students - adults and children, amateurs and professionals. He has coached students to All-American status and to All-Conference status.
In 2026, Bruce was inducted into the Northern Golf Association (NGA) Hall of Fame for his noteworthy playing career and his contributions to the development and promotion of golf in Northern Ontario.
A dual citizen of the United States and Canada, Bruce now lives in the Southeastern U.S., but returns to Ontario annually to visit his son.
